Hi,

Yeah, I saw it *someplace*! There were several posts either here or
on Linder's site that went into the specifics of code signing. That is,
which code signing software to use and the like. I just got my
certificate information and such all straightened out and now need to
learn how to use it... {'-)

Thanks!

So rather than waste your time looking at all that's been written, you'd
prefer somebody else to waste his time spelling it all out again just for
you?

Cool <g> You've obviously got management potential <g>.

Jane,

Yes... No... {'-) Did I mention that I *did* look? In fact, I
thought I had bookmarked or saved the appropriate data... Well, I
*thought* I did! And maybe I did... I just can't find it on my
workstation or on this newsgroup or on Linder's site. I know that if I
can't find it within a hour or so of searching, I'm just going down the
rabbit hole blind. I wasn't wanting to waste anyone's time for them to
do the searching! I *was* hoping someone could find their
bookmark/reference faster than me! {'-)

It reminds me of a time I was looking for something and mentioned
it to a computer "newbie." I had spent hours dredging through references
and searches (dogpile, google, altavista, etc.). "Oh, I just typed in
this...," and viola! There it was. First reference. First time. What was
I doing wrong? Well, I just wasn't asking the right question. Like
looking for "thread," but all you can think of is "small string" (My dad
did this once and about drove us all batty presenting him with all sorts
of "small string"!). After a while, I just give up and ask for help. {'-)

She walked over a lot of glass for the rest of us to create those
articles:)

See the link at the Lindersoft web site. If you got the recent emails about
all the updates, then it will be under the Comodo link (which Lindersoft has
a special deal).

Despite the excellent write-ups, I can't believe how much of a PITA that is.

Biggest PITA? The recommended practice is to expose your WHOIS page
*before* you order your certificate. That is so NOT gonna happen. I got
mine locked under a private whois for a very good reason and I certainly
don't want to put a dummy email account up there for certificate reasons.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

For those of us using GoDaddy, certificate applications is not easy unless
you shell out major bucks. That is far more expensive than any vendor cost.

Kurt,

ONCE you DO have the CodeSign certificate info - The SHORT answer is use:

Product Description - SetupBuilder Developer, MFG - Lindersoft
Internet Link - http://www.lindersoft.com/products_setupbuilder_dev.htm

It WILL do all the heavy lifting for you! And create First Class Install
Programs as well.

There are other variations of course, but in the script editor, just before
Create Folders:

First, Embed Vista Manifest into EXE (this covers both XP and Vista use -
doesn't depend on a particular C6 release to include Vista manifesting,
etc)

Second - If using SoftwarePassport Armadillo protection, call a batch file
to protect your EXE

Third - CodeSign your EXE.

AND in the General Information Visualizer - Digital Signature - fill in the
appropriate information and it'll CodeSign the installer AND uninstaller.

C'mon - doesn't get any easier than that - of course, there are a few
variations to it for other reasons.

So, just ask away - yes, I bought the ebook, read some articles, etc, the
practical side is ONCE you've endured the arrows of the first attack -
ORDERING the CodeSign Certificate - the practical side of implementing
isn't as bad as all that! :-D

AND, if you're going to CodeSign PAD files, Start here!

http://www.asp-shareware.org/pad/spec/padsign.php

Follow their instructions, and you should be able to do that in short order
too - if not, holler, I've been through it AND here is an online example of
a PAD file with CodeSigning.
