View Full Version : SetupBuilder 5.5

Well, it's taken me 6 months to get around to it but I finally built my
first SB5.5 installer... (I have too many products still in 4.03)

Just a couple of glitches... When SB5 is maximized and you do a Test or a
Run and you don't have the preferences options to minimize SB5.5 when Test
or Run is executed, the installer does not seem to be invoked. If you
minimize SB5.5 manually, the window should be there, but it's not.

Also, It would be nice to be able to build a 'custom' collection of Clarion
related (core and third party) DLLs so that we don't have to dig around in
the BIN and ThirdParty\BIN folders looking for DLLs and other support files
when we build installations. Just like you have the Microsoft component
packages, it would be really cool to be able to build our own customized
component packages.

I know I've just scratched the surface here and will be getting into doing
web updates, etc soon... but all in all it was very easy to use and I
created an installer a lot faster than I did in SB 4.03.

Thanks for a great product Friedrich!

Another suggestion...

The SetupBuilder project window title includes the name of the project and
it is displayed first... i.e.,
Secure Address Book 2.0.sb5 - SetupBuilder 5.5

Some code, just as that in Handy Tools that detects the title of the window
to prevent the application from running more than once, will prevent the
application from running if the SetupBuilder project window is open
(minimized to the task bar).

The obvious solution to this issue is to reverse the way the title bar is
displayed...
SetupBuilder 5.5 - Secure Address Book 2.0.sb5

would work just as well and not prevent the application from running.

Ben,

Last year Microsoft ask use to change it from "SetupBuilder - Yada.sb5" to
"Yada.sb5 - SetupBuilder 5" <g>. Most of their apps have yada.txt -
Application Name (e.g. untitled - Notepad, sbuilder - Microsoft Visual C++),
etc.

Well, consider this... Microsoft doesn't buy SetupBuilder... we do... and we
are your customers and if a particular issue in SetupBuilder is causing an
issue for your customers or Microsoft, who is more important to your bread
and butter... Microsoft or your customers... At least make the change an
option in the preferences so we can choose how it should work...

Ben,

Microsoft is one of our largest customers! We did not provide Microsoft
with free SB5 licenses.

Just curious if it wouldn't be a good idea to change this in HandyTools so
the feature can also work fine with Microsoft applications?

You'll have to talk with Gus Creces about this... Unfortunately, this is
only one of two applications that I happened to use Handy Tools in with
Clarion 5.5... at some point I'll re-write this application to eliminate the
dependency on Handy Tools and the other application doesn't look like it
will ever be used by the customer - they like their Clarion DOS based
product too much to use the Windows product, even though the Windows version
does a lot more and conforms to their business model better than the older
version. I don't have any plans on upgrading Handy Tools ($500 bucks is a
bit steep for an upgrade) Since he's not using mutexes to determine if an
application is already running (at least in the version of Handy Tools that
I have) we're both at the mercy of Gus' code.

I just changed the title bar in my application so it doesn't clash.

Ben,

Thank you for your kind words!

1) I'll check the minimize thing, thank you.

2) With regard to the 3rd party collection. Good idea. What about the
following: 3rd party vendors can provide us with their "Include Scripts" and
we would be more than happy to add a "3rd Party Include Script Download
Pool" to our web site.
