hello Mister Brawn <bg>

nice he ?

a new post from SV announces to install examples under
quote
My Documents\SoftVelocity\Clarion 7\
if using SetupBuilder its: CSIDL_PERSONAL
end quote

Could you please confirm or infirm that ONLY the user installing clarion will 'see' the examples as Bob Z does not seem to really understand what I am trying to tell him

If admin installs then limited takes over he will not see the examples .....

Maybe I am wrong then please let me know also

clarionbeta requires your attention please Monsieur Installer :)

Hi Jean-Pierre,

I assume, SoftVelocity is doing an "asInvoker" installation for examples.
We are doing exactly the same with SB7 examples -- all "SetupBuilder 7"
examples go to:

%_CSIDL_PERSONAL%\SetupBuilder Projects

So if SoftVelocity does an "asInvoker" install for C7 examples to
"CSIDL_PERSONAL\SoftVelocity\Clarion 7", then it's perfectly valid and the
preferred examples location.

Does this help?

Hi Friedrich,

Which means that the limited user can access the PERSONAL data of the admin user ?

admin installs and AsInvoker means admin installs to HIS personal document folder - is this correct ?

admin closes the session and limited user opens one

Does he see the admin personal documents data ?

I always thought he only saw HIS and the PUBLIC one

He can also WRITE to the admin PERSONAL documents data ????

For a demo we need to write to that folder as you know

Something fishy somewhere (a puzzled man asked) :)

Hi Jean-Pierre,

I can only speak for "SetupBuilder 7" because I have not installed the C7
examples.

No, why should "JoeUser" (a Standard User) have access to the "Admins"
personal folder ;-) Both Admin and JoeUser install their own set of
examples. Depending on the elevation type, the SB7 IDE "sees" the Admin or
JoeUser examples.

Does this help?

Thank you

This solves the problem then : SV should NOT install in Personal but in Public otherwise UserA will not be able to see and write (compile) the demos installed by UserB

I feel reassured to know that I am NOT getting insane ;)

Merci

I thought he understood you just fine. You just disagree with him.
<g>

If you log in as the Administrator user, install C7, then logoff and
logon as another user, then you're right, you won't see the examples.
That's the whole point of it being in the "Users" documents.

If you want every user to see them, then after installing with
Administrator rights, drag the examples into a different folder that
everyone can see. End of story!

Mike,

Sorry but userB cannot "see" and drag and copy and paste etc
that anyway, is not "working", it is in french we say "bidouiller" ..... which is certainely not what you would like your users to do !

An excellent installer (SB) does all for us if we tell him correct things

Friedrich has done all the "dirty" work of solving all this mess in paths created by unilateral decisions .... no use talking of this again is it ? :)

If on top of this SV decides to add more uncommon sense by installing an ELEVATED exe and use PERSONAL folder then it is not being professionals - and you certainley know
it Mike.

I do not have to agree or disagree - I see that once again SV does what they want thinking they only know better.

all of us here have (you included certainly <g>) learnt the hard way how to install all for UAC compliancy problems and SV decides to do something else - beautifull example
they give us

SV is configuring their installer to work for a single user. You
prefer that they install for all users. They aren't doing it "wrong";
it's just different than you want.

Mike,

again I do not care either ways :)

I am trying to understand ....

So they have several installers and when you purchase a dev group license pack you get another one ?

It also means that the user who installs now HAS to be admin level AND copy the examples if he is not going to use an admin account to work

OK, why not if that is what they want .... after all - no one really seems to care so I must be the fool on the hill ;)

Thanks for your explanation and time

Hi Jean-Pierre,

Please note that I was talking about SetupBuilder! And that's why I
mentioned "Depending on the elevation type" ;-)

SetupBuilder is a true "Mixed User Application". That means, the
SetupBuilder IDE is (by default) running "non-elevated". Of course, it can
be executed "elevated" -- as a result, it "sees" a completely different
profile (the Admins profile instead of the "real" current users profile).
So "Admins" and "Standard Users" can have different sets of SetupBuilder
examples (or none at all) because we install the examples from a asInvoker
(instead of requireAdministrator) installer.

But the Clarion 7 IDE is always running elevated! In other words, the IDE
can see and use files from within CSIDL_PERSONAL\SoftVelocity\Clarion 7 (if
the Examples were installed from an elevated installer).

So IMO, there is nothing wrong with the above SoftVelocity approach.
