View Full Version : Multiple shortcuts added to desktop

Hi Friedrich,

I have a client install that under some circumstances seems to get confused
and add 2 or 3 extra shortcuts to the desktop, but if you go and try to
delete them you get error "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source
file or disk" which indicates to me that those files don't really exist.
Anyone have a clue what the heck is going on?

I could duplicate this by making an install fail during manual copying of
datafiles from old data location to a new one and then re-running the
install, but the install failed way before it installed shortcuts. Also the
install only installs one shortcut to the desktop and in most cases it does
so. However, in some strange cases it installs 2 or 3 additional ones. I
could understand one extra if instead of updating the existing shortcut it
created a new one, but 2 or 3 just don't make any sense to me at all.

Best regards,

Hi Jeff,

> Refresh?

I know that can be an issue on Vista, but I don't ever recall seeing that on
XP or seeing it reported on XP. Is there any way to let the install refresh
the desktop?

I have seen the problem on XP Pro but did not report. Refresh fixed
it.

Thanks! I suggested refreshing to my client but I'll probably not hear back
from him until tomorrow.

Anyone know _why_ this happens? I only see this once in a blue moon when
testing and the only time I have been able to somewhat reproduce this is
when an install failed and then was installed again.

Arnor,

I would REALLY hate to tell you HOW long ago, Friedrich included that! :-D

But, you're right - there are so many gems in SetupBuilder Developer (soon
official release of Ultimate Edition), we all need newsgroup nudges to keep
aware of things we have missed.

Please don't, it's too embarrassing as it is;)

Well, I do recall people talking about this issue, but I don't ever recall
someone suggesting this function. Makes me wonder if there are other's who
haven't realized it exist;)

Best regards,
