Hi Friedrich,

I have another question: I use the "get System Information" function to
determine the MS-SQL version. SB tolds me it is "8.00.194" but MS-SQL
itself says it is "SQL Server 10.0.1600.22 - Standard Edition RTM".

A collegue asked MS-Support. This is the answer:

> I don't know what API the Install is using - would be interesting to
> know. And since you can have multiple instances of SQL Server, how
> can the API only return One version ??? You must connect to a
> specific instance to properly know the version

What do you say?

Markus

This function was for MSDE version detection, later improved for SQL Server
2005 (Express). It can not (and will not) detect SQL Server 2008+. The
manual is definitely missing an "obsolete warning". We'll add this to the
SB7 manual, thank you.

In the past, installation systems (InstallShield, Wise/Altiris,
SetupBuilder, etc.) used the registry to find out if a specific SQL version
was installed. Beginning with Server 2008, this does not work reliable any
longer (key is missing on most -not all- machines).
