View Full Version : Code signing window

Hi Friedrich,

Is there any way to get the "Enter Private key Password" window to NOT
appear when codesigning or do something to make it show minimized and not
grab focus or something? The problem is that when you call SB to compile a
project this window pops up and steals focus. If you happen to be typing
something and it gets into the entry field it seems that the process hangs,
or perhaps it's when pressing some key or the other, not sure.

Best regards,

Arnor,

Sounds as if you're using signcode.exe instead of signtool.exe with a .PFX
file?
If so, I don't think you'll find a consistent solution.

I'm just using the "#code-sign application" compiler directive. If you use
signtool.exe how can you code sign the uninstaller?

Specify the location of signtool.exe in Tools | Options
Specify the PFX file and its password in the installer properties.
Specify the PFX file and its password for each #code-sign application.

See pics attached.

Thank you very much! I _think_ I have located the correct download for it -
not sure I have it on my DVDs.

I know how annoyed people get when I keep linking to my old clarionmag
articles <g>...
but there's information in this one on downloading and using signtool and on
creating a PFX from the certificate files.
http://www.clarionmag.com/cmag/v8/v8n11signing2.html

There's also a blurb on signtool.exe in the SetupBuilder help files (search
for signtool)

Reason I went and look is that MS changes their links so fast that I never
keep up with them, so I just searched through the msdn site and I think I
found what I needed:)

Jane,

Just a suggestion for you and Dave Harms to possibly work out.

Make that article available as part of this product:

Product Description - Manifests, Code Signing, and Vista,
MFG - Clarion Magazine (CoveComm Inc.)
Internet Link - http://www.clarionmag.com/cmag/ebooks.html

v9n01-05 articles and v8n12manifest articles are already a part of the
ebook, so it seems v8n11signing2 would be a natural to be part of the
e-book (IMO).

That would give someone an alternative to someone who might not want to buy
a full subscription - but take advantage of your article.

Personally, I own the e-book, and have access to your article.

David,

I happened to look at the contents page of that ebook on the clarionmag
website a few weeks ago and was surprised that Dave didn't include the two
articles I did on Vista data location / public folder / sharing /
permissions issues (http://www.clarionmag.com/cmag/v9/v9n08vista4.html and
http://www.clarionmag.com/cmag/v9/v9n08vista4b.html ) , as that's been such
an issue for programmers to deal with.

But unless I'm mistaken, the table of contents shows that the first two
articles in the ebook are the original ones I did on code-signing... ??

Jane,

Yes, on closer inspection - that article is there (I was looking at source
code zip names - and there is no source code with that article - then I
looked at e-book PDF, and confirmed it).

however, one of your image shots - Figure 9 in the Clarion magazine article
is critically better than the "edited version" in the ebook -

the e-book Figure 1 shows the Certificate details, but your Figure 9 in
CMag article displays Key details with the ALL important!

5. Where do you wish to store your Private key?

a lot of information you contributed and others is still valid today, but
with two years passing since it's release, it sure could use an update.

I've found when you use the PFX option, the password is not needed.

But only if you create a PFX that does not have a password -- NOT
recommended! ;-)

If you use the pvk2pfx tool to convert your .spc/.pvk to .pfx, the /po
<my_password_goes_here> command line switch lets you specify a password for
the .pfx.

OIC. Never understood why Jane changed her password in her article. What
was wrong with the old one? ;-)
