View Full Version : "Create a Service"

Hello all,

the recent project I tinker has a service running. For this I used
Capesofts SelfService.

While searching a way how to uninstall a service with the uninstaller I
came across the item "Create a Service".

Does this mean I can make any of my programs (as long as it obeys
Microsofts rules of a service) being a service just by this feature of
SetupBuilder?

Without SelfService, just by declaring it being a service by adding this
feature in the SB-script?

Or did I get something wrong?

Wolfgang,

If your program is a Windows "service", then you can Install, Start, Stop,
Remove, Pause and Resume it with SetupBuilder.

But the program still needs to be made with SelfService (or similar), SB
does not add a service-functionality to my program?

ATM I see only the need to install and start such a service during
install, and then remove that service once the un-install is performed.

SetupBuilder fully supports services (including installation and
uninstallation). But of course, you have to develop a "service" to use
these functions -- a Windows service is an EXE specially designed to
communicate with the SCM (Service Control Manager).
