Hallo,

I would like when I install the software to save the version and the install
path. What to chose : registry or to an INI file ? Also if it's a ini where
is safe and good to save ?

I would like when customers will run again the software the SB to detect the
path of the application and version.

Thank you for any suggestions,

Regards,
Robert Iliuta

Robert,

An excellent Clarion Third Party product has recently been released, and it
will provide a solution for your needs.

Product Description - ProPath, MFG - LANSRAD
Internet Link - http://www.clarionproseries.com/html/propath.html

The author had a number of beta testers using the product for months, and
of course, many more have purchased the product since the release,

so you should be able to get quite a bit of help in the Clarion community
in regards to additional questions you may have about using Clarion ProPath
and implementing it.

Very inexpensive for all the features it contains - USD $39.95

It works VERY well with SetupBuilder installs!

Please see "Detect Previous Version..." function.

It can detect the previous installation path, version number and uninstall
string (if you would like to uninstall the previous version automatically).

Does this help?

One thing to keep in mind with the Detect Previous Version function...

This will only work if you had enabled Add / Remove Program support when
your user originally installed the program, because it makes use of that
information in the Registry.

Jane,

Yes, I put this to good use with the release of Product Scope 7.8 - because
I previously did not have my data in proper UAC locations, I used a
modified version of Previous Detect -

and the user could have installed my previous Product Scope to:

C:\Disney Characters\Goofy

but Add/Remove support and Registry read from previous install AND modified
Previous Detect install read Goofy correctly AND copied current app data to
PROPER UAC locations for use with Product Scope 7.8.

Thanks to SetupBuilder, Examples, Friedrich, Jane and gang for the
transition to better installs!

And Robert, sorry I misread your original query - but ProPath is STILL a
good solution for UAC path management (for Clarion programs)! :-D
