Hi Friedrich,

Posted this earlier but wanted your take on this.

If a customer has installed my app on Vista (using the latest SB6) then he
upgrades his computer to Windows 7 would/should he need to re-install my
app?

Welcome back! We missed you.

Only if the already installed application is not Win7-aware and you have a
new version that is Win7-aware. In this case, it would be a good idea to
uninstall and re-install.

Vista applications are "legacy" applications for Windows 7. So you need a
Windows 7 compatible installer and a Windows 7 "aware" application.
Otherwise, you'll get the "Program Compatibility Assistant" (PCA) mitigation
under Windows 7.

Friedrich,

if basically Lynn needed to UAC manifest his program EXE - dlls with
Windows 7 manifest - could he not just use SB7 - Windows 7 manifest what he
needed - use SB7 web update feature to replace those files rather than
uninstall - re-install, since the latest SB6 is a Windows 7 compatible
installer

Or do you still recommend unintall - re-install in that situation?

Good point. If the application does support web update, then Lynn only has
to update the application .exe and web update .exe files with Win7-aware
versions.

And if his deployment strategy supports "updates" (similar to what the full
SetupBuilder install image does if it detects an already installed version),
then no uninstall - re-install is required. Just an update of the existing
application.
