View Full Version : Install quits working on a Vista machine

Hi Friedrich,
I have an installation that was written in SB5, I converted it to SB6
developer. When the installation is run, the user is prompted to select the
location (by default the C: drive), then the name of my folder is appended
to their choice. As long as the default location is used, the install works
fine.(installdir would equal c:\myapp). But if the browse button is used to
select an existing subfolder, Vista returns an error message that the
program has quit working, (example installdir, c:\subfolder\myapp), this
occurs for any existing subfolder including "Program Files". Any
suggestions?
Thank you,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Some weeks ago another customer reported a similar problem. It is machine
specific and depends on the Vista build. Your problem may be caused by a
(confirmed) bug in Vista and Longhorn (we had a ticket open with Microsoft).
Microsoft fixed it in the latest Longhorn (beta 3). I don't know if it is
already fixed in the latest Vista update. We have developed a permanent
workaround in SetupBuilder 6.5.
