Hello,

I am thinking about migrating to SetupBuilder from Wise because SetupBuilder is very close in features and concepts in Wise, and it's developed (unlike Wise). However, we already have significant amount of script code in Wise, so I am looking for options to convert Wise project in some way (other than rewrite everything from scratch). Is there any option available?

Possibility (or impossibility) to import Wise project is a key factor for our migration as we don't have resources now to devote to rewriting scripts that work. We'd be able to pay a significant price for a conversion tool or one-time conversion.

Hello,

It's not possible to "import" Wise scripts into SetupBuilder. But we have a Consulting Division that converts InstallShield, Wise, etc. projects to SetupBuilder. The main "problem" is that we see an unprecedented peak in business due to the release of Vista / Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2. Things have gone through the roof.

If you are interested, you can contact our Sales (sales [at] lindersoft [dot] com) and we can review your existing script(s) to see what we can do.

Great, thank you. That was one of the options I was looking for.

On the other hand, it would probably have sense to create such convertor and maybe offer it as an additional product. Scripts are very similar (custom dialog boxes require more attention) so convertor would not be too complicated. Ok, nevermind ...

Hello,

We had such a "converter" some years ago, but it did not work very well. The underlying technology between Wise and SetupBuilder is too different. Sometimes, you only need one function in SetupBuilder to replace 20-30 lines of Wise script logic. And the releases of Windows Vista / Server 2008 / Windows 7 / Server 7 changed quite a few things in the deployment world. So it makes sense (for most projects) to "re-think" the deployment logic :)
