View Full Version : Clarion 7.x Installation Verification (January 11, 2010)

All,

We have released a test tool to check the C7.0 and C7.1 installation
environment status. This freeware tool can be used to verify the installed
Clarion 7.x version(s). If your auto-detection of Clarion 7.x fails, you
can use this application to find out what might cause it.

www.lindersoft.com/projects/c7check_v101.exe

The above is a code-signed application developed with SetupBuilder 7.1. No
need to install anything, just launch it.

Then, in fact, you do not have a valid C70/C71 installation environment.
Even if it (seems) to work fine, none of the future C7/C71-aware
installations can detect your C7/C71 environments.

Very easy to do. You only have to install the "December 22" build of
Clarion 7.1 and auto-detection works fine.

If you have installed the "December 18" release of C71, then you have
overwritten your C70 installation settings and you should uninstall C70 and
C71 -- then reinstall the C71 "Finale Release For CSP Customers" (that's the
December 22 build). If you need C70 back, reinstall it as well.

That's it :)

BTW, see "Office Inside 3 DLL Issue" a few threads down.

Just a reminder Friedrich, after they re-install C70, they should NOT
re-install the C70 examples since the installer for the C70 examples has
the same GUID as the C70 installer does and it will trash the installer
settings for C70.

Hopefully SV will release an updated installer for the C70 examples for
those poor souls stuck with the C70 beta so that they can at least have a
correct install.

Yes, good point! As I understand it, the new Examples installer is up and
running.

> Yes, good point! As I understand it, the new Examples installer is up and running.

I looked at the download links provided in the C70 E-mail and the C71 email
for examples and they are exactly the same.

I downloaded the file again to a new folder, looked at the modified
properties of the installer and indeed it was updated January 8, 2010.

However the installer is for a single version of Clarion (no distinction
between C70 and C71).

Interestingly enough, the installers (any of them - old or new) default to
the shared documents folder of Clarion71 for the install location.

There is no indication if it is examples for C70 or examples for C71 and no
option to install accordingly ( IOW they are not using your Clarion version
detection in the installer ).

In testing, the people app does open in C70 and offers conversion from an
older version of C7 (pre-Beta/Beta I guess).

However if they add new examples in the future and use the same URL for
download again, one has to wonder if those examples would not work C70.

So here we go again I guess...the best plan is to fly by the seat of our
pants I it seems.

SV really needs to just pay you to do their installers for them.

Well, if you check the previous posts, they were intended for "3rd-party"
vendors. For example: Subject: "Clarion 3rd-party developers only: Clarion
7.x Installation Verification".

But this new post is for "end-users" because more and more Clarion users are
installing C71-aware setups now and not all 3rd-party developers provide a
link to this tool.

LOL! I see. So I assume that the next post should be "common",
subj like: "Clarion 3rd-party developers and end-users: Clarion 7.x
Installation Verification".

As the last time this one reports C7.0 and C7.1 as to be valid.
Oh man are we glad :-)

Thanks Friedrich

Friedrich,
Found valid c7.1 here, but no C7.0 since none installed.
