View Full Version : Add a Template Folder location to Tools/Options/File Locations?

I recently went to create a new SB7 file using 'Empty Template Project'
and remembered a bug I had forgotten to report. When the file selection
dialog came up to select the template .sb7 file, it comes up in the
Examples directory under the Project Location directory (as set in
Tools/Options/File Locations). This seems odd, because there's a
Template directory under the default Project Location path (or, at
least, there was when I started using SB6. I can't remember if I added
one in under SB7 or not). I would expect looking for the Template
directory under the Project Location directory instead of the Examples
directory. I do use template files when I create new installs, as it
saves time by having things like company names, Digital signing, etc,
already set up, instead of having to re-enter them each time. I'd
rather have my custom-made templates in their own Templates directory
rather than having them mixed in with the examples. Right now I have to
navigate over to the Template directory when creating a new installer.

What I'd rather see is a separate Template Location entry on the
Tools/Options/File Locations tab, specifying where the templates are
normally kept. I don't store my .sb7 files in the default Project
Location path. I consider a .sb7 file as part of the source for a
project, so it goes in the same directory as the other 'source' (.app,
..dct, etc) for an application. E.g., I've got a C:\ADProjects
directory, which contains a number of directories, one for each
application, each of which will require an installer. I'd like to be
able to change the global Project Location to point to C:\ADProjects (so
the only navigation I need to make is down one directory when creating a
new installer) without changing the location the Select Template dialog
comes up in. Best way to do that seems to me is to have another File
Locations tab entry specifying where the template directory is.

Also, I notice that the 'Browse sample projects' link goes to the
Examples directory under the global Project Location directory. If the
user has changed the global Project Location directory, it will no
longer be correct. This needs to remember the original location that
the examples were installed to.

You are right. The default should point to the "Template" and not the
"Examples" folder. Fixed now, thank you.

This is still going to be relative to the global Projects Location
directory?

Ben,

Yes, that is correct. All "New..." options are relative to the "Project
Location" set in Tools | Options... | File Locations.
