View Full Version : Comodo - I'm on the Cusp

I have read all the good stuff about "renewing" my Comodo license. But I'd
like to solicit some advice from the experts.

My current license expires 6/3/2010. I will use the Lindersoft 3 year plan.
My situation is that I will be moving my office sometime in the next two
weeks which means new addresses which are not now on any documents.

So should I try to rush it through now at my old address?

Thanks!

Hi Lynn -
I had a LOT of trouble with my renewal/re-order. All of them were mine,
tripping over discrepencies between our offices, the web-site
administrator, and on and on and on!

Were I you I'd do it now just to avoid any issues that might arise from the
change in address. If you you a PO.Box you might dodge that bullet.

Good luck
Guy

Thanks Guy. I dread this hassle.

The first time around was a bitch because I didn't have a fixed IP address.

I used copies of my company certificate of incorporation and a
telephone bill. Neither show my address but the documents were
accepted.

Hi Steve,

You lucked out big time. I just bought my 2nd renewal so it was actually my
3rd code signing certificate with Comodo and ended up having to supply 5
documents. And, because of a recent move, the Dun & Bradstreet information
was incorrect. Comodo would not renew until it was corrected as well. All
documents had to show the same address used on the renewal application.

I guess it is all in who reviews your application and who you talk to that
decides the number of hoops you will be subjected to. It took 21/2 weeks to
finally get mine approved.

All WebTrust Compliant Certification Authorities have to follow the same
strict rules now.

Some years ago, a guy obtained code-signing certificates in the name of
"Microsoft" from VeriSign. Later, another guy a certificate in the name of
"Mickey Mouse". After that scandal, all WebTrust Compliant Certification
Authorities changed the rules and because code-sign is essential now (Vista,
Windows 7), they all have very strict rules.

I would never ever go through all this once a year. So my advice is to
always buy the 3-year certificate.

Friedrich,

I understand that they need to be strict when issuing new certificates, but
if they had a real renewal instead of a re-buy process, they could make it
easier. If they already made sure you were who you said you were 3 years
ago, they should be able to just re-issue the same certificate to the same
person or company somehow. It's like getting a drivers license. The first
time, you take the test and prove who you are. But the renewals are very
easy. Anyway, I know there isn't anybody reading these posts that can do
anything about this. It's just conversation.

From my experiences, it's always a good idea to quote your previous order
number in any correspondence with them. If you place a new order (for a
"renewal") using the same company information, Comodo should speed up the
validation process.

BTW, Comodo is still the nicest WebTrust Compliant Certification Authorities
to work with.

I must agree they were most eager to assist and extremely easy to work with.
That said, I just feel the hoops I had to jump through this time was over
the edge in spite of referring them to my two previous order reference
numbers.

I'm not upset but I must tell you, for whatever reason, it was three times
more difficult to purchase this recent code signing certificate than it was
the previous two combined.

As others have suggested, make certain your *ALL* addresses (domain whois
and all documents) are the same as the address you enter when making the
purchase. It will save you a ton of grief.

The only time Comodo have asked me for more information was for my
phone number used to place a callback to complete validation. It was
an email from someone at Comodo in the UK. I answered with an
attachment of a phone bill.
