View Full Version : XP Install Customer Problem

I have a customer installing my app on an XP machine.

He has a unique problem in that the folders for the data are not being
created properly. He gets an error:

"The target directory c:\documents\all users\documents\linked
software\wallpaper is not writeable or accessible."

What could cause this problem?

Thanks

Are you able to run that same install on your machine?

If not, see my thread from a few days ago.

Why does it just say "c:\documents\" vs "C:\Documents and Settings\" ?

Are you using CSIDL, or hardcoding that?

I think that's what MS calls it sometimes to mess us up. ;-) Or maybe I
transcribed it wrong as he dictated the error.

The path is not hard coded and it works on hundreds of installs. It
actually installed properly on another XP at his site. The path uses CSIDL.

My interim conclusion is that his machine is messed up somehow. But how?

Thanks for sticking with me.

Permissions.

Is his account an administrator or power user on the XP machine in question?

You might want to check this old thread:

HI Lynn

Is the workstation connected to a Windows server with folder permissions and
redirects handle by the server? Usually seen on SBS servers.

Cheers

Richard

Thanks Richard but it is not connected to a Windows server to my knowledge.
