-- A Time Travel into the SetupBuilder History --
11 years ago, in May 1999, Dave Harms published a technology preview of
"Setup Builder V3" in his excellent Clarion Magazine: www.clarionmag.com

At that time, Setup Builder was a nice little tool to build simple
self-extracting installations for 16- and 32-bit Windows applications. My
goal was to develop a real competitor to Wise and InstallShield -- but I
had no idea how much work it would take.
Some years later, "The Company Who You Think Of When Creating Software
Installations" tried to take over the SetupBuilder product line and to hire
its development team. They noticed that there was a new promising
installation tool in town that could get them into some trouble as it was
taking away customers at neck breaking speed. But I said "no" to a tempting
take-over offer and decided to bring SetupBuilder (registered trademark now)
to "The Next Level".
In any engineering project, be it a Boeing 747 or a software product, there
comes a point where it becomes worthwhile to take a step back, look at what
works, what doesn't work, dispense with the baggage, and come up with a
ground-up new design. We listened intently to the things our customers had
been asking for. SetupBuilder V5 had a totally redesigned user interface
that made developing sophisticated installations for software even easier
than before.
Wow, have things changed since then! Today, in May 2010, deploying any kind
of software application is one of the most complex tasks you face as a
developer. The very phrase "software distribution" can strike fear into the
hearts of even the most seasoned software developer. Distributing software
is the last, but most critical step in software sales. And our goal is to
help software companies gain as much benefit as possible in this step.
We continued to work harder than ever to produce the best software delivery
tools. The result is SetupBuilder V7.
Any organization planning to move its applications to the Windows 7 platform
will be able to use SetupBuilder to comply with this new industry standard.
Version 7 includes new and enhanced functionality that will further reduce
the time needed by software developers and systems administrators to create
installations and distribute them to end user desktops in any Windows
environment. It provides updates to the easy-to-use "Visualizers" that
includes Lindersoft's point-and-click method of scripting technology for
simple creation of installations.
