Steve,

Did SetupBuilder install these Shortcuts? A shortcut is a normal file and
the uninstaller removes it without any problem. There is no installer bug
in this area. I would suggest to check the uninstall log and see what
SetupBuilder created.

If this is a update installation, I think you have one set of shortcuts
(from a Wise, etc. installation) under the Current User and now another set
under All Users.

No, SB did install these.
I have confirmation from another user who emailed me about it, questioning
me!

I'll see if I can get his install log.

Then the user overwrote the current Shortcut(s) and during uninstallation,
the uninstaller restored the previously overwritten and backuped one(s)!

No need to get your hands on his uninstall .log.

this is what I asked him:

<quote>
* Uninstall SM (leave data ok)
* DELETE the Desktop and Program/Start shortcuts... so it looks like a
virgin machine
* re-install SM
</quote>

So there would be no overwriting of shortcuts!!

Log attached.

I don't see any entry for a Shortcut. The uninstaller can only uninstall
what is in the log.

Exactly!

....and 'yes' - he can see the shortcuts after this installation!

He has just double...triple-confirmed with me:

1) Uninstall SM within "Add or Remove Program"

2) SM shortcut is still exists on the desktop

3) Delete SM shortcut on the desktop manually

4) NO *.log file(s) anywhere in the working directory

5) Reinstall SM 5

6) New shortcut appears on the desktop

7) "Uninst TCS Store Manager 5.log" is now exists in the working directory; and this is the only *.log file existing there.

These are the last log entries:

|014|Software\Marvyn\TCS Store Manager
|018Íñ|ÀÀÀÁ}ðÍðÄ4

IMO, the shortcuts are created after this last entry was logged. I don't
know why logging stopped here and why there is a "|018Íñ|ÀÀÀÁ}ðÍðÄ4" entry.
Because the shortuts are not in the log, the uninstaller cannot remove them.

If you can reproduce this on your machine, just let me know and we'll
investigate it further.

Yes Friedrich.... in fact I noticed it first on my testing PC.
I ignored it... hoped he would too <g>... (but he's more thorough than me!)

Should I email you the script?

Steve,

Perfect <g> Would it be possible to send the script and the binary
installer (if it is too large, provide us with a download link)?

Thanks,
Friedrich

Steve,

You have unmarked the "Uninstall" checkbox in the Shortcut
Properties!!!!!!!! Result is that the installer does not log the action.

Friedrich,

OK, with a program so Remarkingly Flexible - it's bound to happen that one
of us will hit the wrong switch and look like a dog chasing it's tail! :-D

Thanks for the great detective work as usual!

Apologies... I never consciously saw that... and to make it worse, I see
that the default is to have it on - so I have obviously clicked on the wrong
thing at some point.

Embarrassed...
