View Full Version : SB 6.5 and Vista

I'm reinstalling on my new Vista machine as my old W2k finally gasped it's
last breath.Everything is fresh, and I am trying to accommodate UAC as much
as I can. However, for Clarion itself, and several other older products I
have been installing to a "Program Files Legacy" folder in order to get
read\write access to the configuration files. Trying to modify a template in
"Program Files" is not gonna happen. ;-) But my question is... will SB6.5 be
happy in Program Files? Or should I send it to live with Clarion and the
other "bad boys"?

Richard,

If I understand your question - you're asking if one of the Vista experts
designed a program to run properly under Vista rules?

Of course, SetupBuilder 6.5 runs like a champion in the Program Files
folder area!

AND, you develop your SB projects where you desire.

And, the Clarion IDE installs by default, were always installed off the
root (C:\clarion5 - D:\c6 etc) , not program files.

Yes David, I always ask the experts. ;-) I figured it would be that way, but
I have learned it is best not to assume anything.

True, and I have kept with that simply because of the need to edit
templates. Thanks for verifying that.

As for Clarion, see Friedrich's post from March 30 and use his
"fix-Clarion-for-Vista" utility:

Thanks Jane, I've got that thread now. And Capesoft is doing an Installation
fix with their products now which I believe is Friedrich's fix. In any case
I have the Uninstall Clarion 6 Installation Fix for Vista in my Clarion6
directory, so I am thinking it may be the same thing. Be best to verify that
with Capesoft though I guess.

Richard,

Here are three main issues with the Clarion IDE under Vista and I have
combined then into two short blogs (one already mentioned by Jane)

Clarion 6 on Vista and Clarion Version Detection for 3rd Party Products
http://profileexchanges.com/blog/?p=47

and

Vista and Clarion 6
http://profileexchanges.com/blog/?p=20

C6 IDE appearance and help issues

Sometimes it helps to have a short url to refer to in addition to trying to
find a certain message in a particular newsgroup thread as well.

Thanks David,

I had already fixed the padding issue, but had not addressed the help. If
these are the only issues with Clarion 6 and Vista, we are indeed fortunate.

Thanks everyone for your help.
