View Full Version : Clarion 7.2 detection?

NewsArchive

Since installing C7.2 I have had problems with several third party
installs detecting C7.2. They always detect my C6.3 install but not
the C7.2. This makes it difficult to make sure all files are
installed to the correct folders. How is the Clarion version
detected and what can I correct in my registry (or whatever) so my
C7.2 is detected? I've tried reinstalling C7.2 several times, both
from clean installs and installing over the current version.

Possibly... but be careful. Check this key with the path in
"InstallLocation":

> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{479A07C0-EF05-11DE-6DF1-18371B021649}

And if you break anything, I've never heard of ya!<g>

Let's assume, it points to the correct folder. What's the file version and

Mike,

Could you also post a screenshot of your c:\Clarion7\bin\clarion.exe version
resource info (right-click, Properties, Details).

But even if this info is correct, if you do not have a C72-aware install
image then you can't detect it.

I bet it is 7.3.0.7280 and not 7.2!

Yes, that's what I thought. It is 7.3.0.7280 version stamped in PE (but
should be 7.2.0.7283). So version-wise, this is Clarion 7.3 and not Clarion
7.2 and SetupBuilder (correctly) did not detect it as Clarion 7.2.

Hi Mike,

You may also want to look at the 3rd party install you have.

Ours, for example, are distinct for Clarion 6 and Clarion 7. So you can
install a Clarion 6 exe all day, it'll never look for, and hence never find,
Clarion 7.

Also, the Clarion 7 installs were updated for Clarion 7.2. So you need to
make sure your Clarion 7 install is a recent one, which has C7.2 support in
it.

In both cases, with our stuff anyway, these are free downloads.

Cheers
Bruce

NewsArchive

Yes. It's important to note that 3rd-party developers using
Lindersoft's SetupBuilder must explicitly state whether to look for
7.0, 7.1 and 7.2 as disctinct entities. Therefore, you must have a
recent install from them with 7.2 activiated as a search parameter.

BTW, I assume the "old" VuMail install was not C72-aware and the new one is.
So the old one "detected" C72 (not really) because it thought it was C71
(both C71 and C72 have the same Product GUID).

I don't think the BoTpl, ABCFree and Procodeblock install images that you
have are C72-aware.

Friedrich

And another quick one: do you explicitly see "Clarion 7.2" in the installs
that "detect" your Clarion 7 environment?

In my case the developer does have 7.2 installed and the product
install is solely for 7.2 but doesn't detect it. I posted a test
script in the SB NG and it's as dirt simple as you can get but on this
developers system it fails. Envision is my head banging against a

I'll ask.

The really odd thing is that I can delete my C7 folder hierarchy and
as long as the registry InstallLocation exists I get detection - even
if it's the WRONG folder. (see image) There's that head against brick
wall thing again!<g>

Any chance this could be a permissions issue for this registry key?

Yes, I read that message. But I did not expect that even the version
resource is incorrect and is stamped as 7.3.0.7280. I assumed that it was a
code-signing anomaly.

So the only solution I see is to add a dirty workaround to the installer
runtime to handle 7.3.0.7280 as 7.2 (but only for PE).

Someone mentioned that their PE install was 7.2, not 7.3, so maybe SV
posted an updated install and the early bird downloads were messed up.

I can't download PE but if someone with this 7.3 version could rename
their existing install, download the current PE install and run a
binary file compare they could see if the install was changed.

<command prompt>
CD into folder with both installs
FC /B filename1 filename2

If they're different it might be better to reinstall 7.2 PE and see if
the failing 3rd party installs now worked.

Yes, that's a good idea. I assume SV fixed the version thing the same day.
And if the version is correct, then SetupBuilder will again detect it as C72
:-)

But who knows how many broken install images are still out there...

If a new install corrects the behavior then that, from my point of
view, would be the correct action to take. The oversight of SV needs
to be fixed, before it causes other problems, not SB.
