View Full Version : C7.2.7283 *NO* detection by third party installers!!

NewsArchive

I am getting annoyed because something here should be so simple - and it is
apparently completely out of my control.

Like Mike Burris in the third party newsgroup, I've tried various
combinations of installation of C7.2.7283 (on W7-64 Enterprise).

To 'do the right thing', I tried uninstalling and removing all traces of the
previous version.

And since then, over three days ago, I've had no success.

In my trials:

I've tried FDISK-Format-XP install followed by C7.2.

I've tried it on Vista Business.

I've tried it on a newly purchased HD - just in case - installed W7-64 and
then C7.2.

And in each case I've followed by trying to install some Capesoft and
Icetips products.

No chance - 'No eligible clarion version detected.'

I've tried Lindersoft's kindly provided c7utility_201.exe from January and
it has not been able to help as it was aimed at a previous version of C7..

What goes on?

I don't have any manual workarounds to correct the situation --- DO I?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Jeff,

Are the install images you tried C72-aware?

BTW, just for fun, download and start our LSZip installer:

http://www.lindersoft.com/lszip_clarion.exe

There is no need to install it! Just click through the wizards (unmark the
"Have Serial Number" checkbox) until you see the "Select Clarion Version"
screen.

I see the Clarion 7.2 option here.

Procodeblock detects both C6.3 and C7
A copy of VuMail from Valutilities that I downloaded June 6 detects

only detects C6.3.

Friedrich, something strange is going on, then if it works on yours to show
you C7.2.

Thank you for your idea.
I downloaded and ran LSZip.

It did not detect Clarion 7.2 on my W7-32 or on the W7-64 machines.
On the W7-64 machine, it did detect Clarion 6.0, even though that has been
uninstalled.

I downloaded two copies of the C7.2 installer from SV, a week apart.
Both have given me the same result.

My version is Clarion7.2.7283, and Clarion.exe is dated 29June2010 1:08pm.

I am working only with the latest Capesoft and Icetips 3rd party items,
downloaded on 26June and 27June.

I have even tried disabling my Firewall/Antivirus program and that made no
difference.

There is nothing strange about my Windows installations.
When installing Clarion7.2, I have tried accepting all of the default
settings.

I have no more ideas.

If the LSZip install does not detect your C72 then you have an invalid
Clarion 7 environment installation.

BTW, if it still detects C6.0 on your machine then you still have some
specific C6 entries on your machine.

Friedrich, and others who participated in this discussion,

Again, thanks for your ideas.

Your observations about 7.3 DO apply to MY downloads of the 7.2 installer (a
week apart).

In my explorations and using REGEDIT on two machines, I had seen "7.3", and,
as you indicated, assumed it was an insignificant anomaly.
I had assumed that somehow I had caused a problem in my registries.
I was wrong.
If you had seen "7.3" in the first few seconds of troubleshooting on my
screens, you would have pinned down the problem in the first few minutes.

I apologise for not mentioning I have the PE version and am running on NTFS.
This omission was an oversight brought on by my level of frustration.

As for vacations ... well ... I look out the window and see the cycle of
light - dark ...

I ran the lszip installer and it sees only my Clarion 6.3, not Clarion 7.3 build 7280. This is with
a good Clarion 7 install (I installed 7.2 fresh and updated to 7.3) on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Build 7283 and LSZip detected it without any problem.

IIRC, there was an incorrect C72 install out there some days ago. Perhaps
you have such an install?

I assume you still have a Clarion.exe version stamped as 7.3.0.7280 (or even
7.3.0.7283?). So version-wise, it is Clarion 7.3 and not Clarion 7.2.

That's a nightmare scenario (especially a few days before our summer
holidays)! This completely breaks Clarion 3rd-party detection for quite a
few developers :-(

Is there also a 7.3.0.7280 EE version available? Did the PE users received

I just posted this in 3rd party...

Someone mentioned (apparently Jeff<g>) that their PE install was 7.2,
not 7.3, so maybe SV posted an updated install and the early bird
downloads were messed up.

I can't download PE but if someone with this 7.3 version could rename
their existing install, download the current PE install and run a
binary file compare they could see if the install was changed.

<command prompt>
CD into folder with both installs
FC /B filename1 filename2

If they're different it might be better to reinstall 7.2 PE and see if
the failing 3rd party installs now worked.

Yes, it seems to be still 7.3.0.7280 version stamped in PE (but should be
7.2.0.7283). So version-wise, this is Clarion 7.3 and not Clarion 7.2 and
SetupBuilder (correctly) did not detect it as Clarion 7.2.

We are adding dirty workaround ("7.3 version fix") to the SetupBuilder
runtime right now. This should finally fix it -- but the 3rd-party vendor
has to recompile the install with the new SB version.

Only if SV would version stamp that "real" C7.3 as 7.3.0.7280. But I am
sure they won't do it ;-)

The "dirty workaround" can detect the minor version of "3" and reads the
revision "7280". It then interprets this as Clarion 7.2 and not as Clarion
7.3.

And hopefully SV will correct it to 7.2 with the next release build.

a possible workaround might be :
1 - install clarion 7.PE previous version .
2 - install all the 3rdparty needed .
3 - install clarion3PE latest on top of the previous, without
uninstalling anything.

it might work, waiting for ne next build ....
