Wupdate.exe Proxy Problem

Hi Friedrich,

I'm using FreeProxy to emulate a proxy server. Wupdate detects if there's a
wrong proxy setting (return errorcode -2) but is not able to download a
given update (with correct settings - see attached screenshot).

If I paste the direct download link to IE it works.

Any ideas what's going wrong?

I see "FTP" in the link (your screenshot). Make sure it is a HTTP server
that powers your web update. I think you are trying to download from a FTP
server and not from a HTTP server.

Hi Friedrich,

The server is both (Web- and FTP Server). But as said via an IE Webrequest
it works. I also noted that wupdate is able to download the manifest file.

One thing I do different than in your examples - I download the whole Update
and not the splitted files (this *.001 etc. I remember). I had a problem
that the download always failed on a certain file (cannot find the file or
so - however the file was clearly there).

Is there some log or any other infos available which can help?

Hi Friedrich,

Ok I found the problem/solution. The update file has a space in it. When I
change the entry in the manifest file to -->

[SB5UPDATE]
Version=4.5.13.750
Setup=PQCS.net%20Update.exe

than it works. Funny enough the file is downloaded/executed with that name -
see Screenshot.

Does that make sense?

Interesting information. We'll add it to the documentation to be on the
safe side.

Do you see a chance to fix this? For me it's ok to indicate this %20 sign in
the Manifest file but Wupdate.exe (imo) should download this file without
the %20 sign in the filename. Of course not urgent - we only have a few
customers with Proxy Servers....

Could you use an underscore instead of the space in the filename?

Yes that works too - I changed the filename (exe and name in the manifest)
so it does not contain spaces anymore.

We have to check if this could result in negative side effects. We have not
changed the HTTP component for some years now and it's doing its work on
quite a few million machines.

Maybe better leave it alone :-)

As noted to Arnor I changed my install names having no more spaces now.
