....purchasing,licensing,registration,etc.

Hello Friedrich and all,

I have SecWin and am thinking about buying Secwin Online Server. That will
take care of application activation/registration. It can handle how long a
particluar app can be used, etc. I can use Setup Builder to secure
installs.

I'm curious about the options of how someone can purchase my apps. I want a
one stop web solution. A customer buys an app. Decides on, say, the level
(enterprise, professional, etc), how long they will recieve upates, and so
on.

What are my options in that regard? I know how to setup serial numbers and
such in SB. But I do not know how to integrate everything.

Your ideas are appreciated!

Don

I don't have any experiences with SecWin. But here is what we do:

Customer buys SetupBuilder. The server immediately sends out a serial
number for his edition (Single-User or Team License, Developer or
Professional) from a pre-generated serial number list. The server also
sends a temporary subscription key which is valid for this specific build.
All this is done automatically.

After that our Sales sends a Subscription Notification with the "permanent"
subscription key (60-days or 1-year).

We are using the setupPROTECT SDK to handle all this.

BTW, this is an interesting reading:

Remind me to take you off the "send homemade bread to a friend" list<g>.

Then you'll be stuck eating baguettes from the corner market and Friedrich

We've still been getting stonewalled on the licensing issue (with regards
to re-distribution of a DLL).

So we may have to rethink our inclusion of that part of the technology and
then just proceed without it.

Hey Friedrich,

Follow up question.

So someone in your sales department has to physically verify that a payment
was made and then send out the subscription key, etc?

I was wondering if I could take the human aspect out of the equation. I
thought that maybe there was a way to verify a payment was made and then
automatically send out a subscription key.

Thanks,
Don

Don,

In our case, "Yes" and "No" <g>. We have an extra manual step involved to
increase protection from fraudulent transactions.

Customer buys SetupBuilder. The server immediately sends out a serial
number for his edition (Single-User or Team License, Developer or
Professional Edition) from a pre-generated serial number list and a
temporary pre-generated subscription key which is valid for this specific
build only (but works for *ALL* serial numbers of this specific serial
number list). The eSellerate system does fraudulent transaction checking,
collects the money and sends the keys (automatically). In other words, the
customer can install and use the software immediately.

Then we check again (manual step) the provided name and address and send a
"Subscription Notification" with the permanent 60-day or 1-year subscription
key. This key only works for this specific serial number.

With the SetupBuilder sPSDK (free add-on), you can completely automate the
serial number and subscription key generation. In most cases, the eCommerce
provider handles the payment verification.

Hello Don,

I used to .... use secwin SOS server and SB together as you maybe
remember

I stopped using SOS (and secwin) as it was slowing down my app at open
time (others also found this to be easily seen) plus over 50% of my
users reported having problems with activation codes expiring etc

It must have been my settings or the combination of both but I prefered
to replace secwin with my own security level code

I combine both together quite easily as the SB SDK allows your app to
generate serials or MP's so easily in a few lines that adding them to
ANY other protection code is done in minutes

Let me know privately if you need more detailed infos

Thanks.

From what my inside folks are telling me it is a matter of getting the nod
from the right folks at Digital River corporate. The SR folks are fine
with it under the guidelines we'd setup before.

Time will tell...
