View Full Version : Shortcut Weirdness on Vista

When using the Shortcut Viewer screen, If I create a shortcut directly under
Start Menu, the shortcut gets created but is displayed on the main Start Menu
and on the All Programs menu at the same level as the subfolder I added for the
block of shortcuts for the various programs in my app. I verified that the two
were the same shortcut both by checking the properties then by deleting it on
one place and seeing that it was gone from the other as well.

Not a question but I think it is curious behavior.

Peter,

Would it be possible to send a small demo script that demonstrates the
problem to support (at) lindersoft (dot) com?

Thanks,
Friedrich

I created the test install and played with it and discovered what happened (I
think) with the shortcuts.

The shortcut was created as follows:

Start Menu > All Programs > my shortcut

Before I took a look at the shortcuts and notice the oddity, I ran my app from
the shortcut and it was thus added to the recently run programs on the start
menu. My eyes are not what they used to be (what am I saying, they have always
been terrible!) and I didn't notice that the shortcut on the Start Menu was one
that Windows put there when I ran my app. When I looked at the properties,
they were the same as the shortcut on Start Menu > All Programs. When I
deleted the All Programs shortcut, the one on the Strart Menu went away too.
So the problem was mine.

However, there is still a problem with where SB puts the shortcut when I
specify to put it on Start Menu. It puts it on Start Menu > All Programs
instead. I have attached my test app for your viewing pleasure.
