View Full Version : Vista vs. XP Manifests

Hi all,

In my installs where I have EXE files, I will now build them without
the included XP Manifest and then add the Vista manifest to them in SB
6.5.

What happens if:

1. I forget to remove the XP manifest setting in Clarion before I
compile?

2. These exe are used on XP? I.e. will the Vista manifest thing work
without any problems on XP

I guess that in Clarion I just uncheck the "Include Default XP
Manifest" and check the "Generate Manifest" so that it is still themed
when I test it locally.

In this case, SetupBuilder will not modify your .exe (app will still have a
XP manifest).

Yes, SetupBuilder makes use of a backward-compatible manifest.

Yes, correct.

Arnor,

Just one point regarding manifests : if you have PowerTheme installed like I
do in a multi-dll multi-proj app then take a close look at twhat happens
with the SB Vista manifest on sheets-tabs if I remember well

I had to come back to Clarion XP manifests because of some problems there
..... maybe changed since my trials though ....but it is always better to
check

It works fine in my post-installer, but that's a local exe, no dlls.
There is a method in my utility class that themes a panel and it turns
it into a no-tab sheet and then XPThemes theme it:) I've been using
this for years with good results. Just did that in the post-installer
and everything looks good, except the progress bars ofcourse, but
nothing we can do about that<g>

Arnór,

SetupBuilder Developer Edition 6.5 makes it so easy to add the Vista
Manifest (XP compatible), run an Armadillo batch file to protect and Code
Sign everything - that I just compile, run SB65, install to Official
Install Folder - Copy program to working folder AND test with everything in
place (since code signing is SO important in Vista and testing)!

Sometimes I take a few extra steps and just load an SB Web update and
wupdate my own test configuration - kinda neat to watch a web installed
update in progress - copying the latest improvements - EXE - Help File to a
test program folder! :-D

Been using web update for a client project for couple of years now and
it is just about the coolest thing there is!
