View Full Version : Install Not finishing properly

NewsArchive

My program compiles with no errors. When I run the program all files are
installed. After, I click on the finish button I get this error:

My program has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution.

If I remove the finish dialog the program closes properly but of course no
finish screen. I do not have any program running after the install.

I am using setup builder 7.3 3195.0 and windows 7 professional

Thanks

What you can try is to run your setup.exe with the event logging switch and
see if the sbevents.txt gives you more information.

Hope this helps.

Freidrich,

I do not see this problem. We sent our install to 400 beta testers and there
was not any setup related issue.

Thanks for SetupBuilder! It is so much better than Wise.

Sincerely,

John Lemmen

Hi John,

Thanks for sharing this information.

I doubt this is caused by a "Finish" dialog bug in SB73. Why? If it was a
bug we would have seen hundreds of similar reports (because SetupBuilder
powers millions of apps).

;-) Thank YOU!

Hi Friedrich: I have found this seems to only happen on my machine. Other
windows 7 and xp seem to be fine.
So what has happened to my machine? It is also happening to all my
installs.

Thanks

Perhaps your "protection software" product (anti-virus scanner, spyware
scanner, etc.)? Or one of your latest virus definition file updates?

BTW, does this also happen with our original SetupBuilder 7.3 install image
on your machine? If yes, is the code-signature valid?

We have not received any other report, so it's definitely something with
your machine.

BTW, if you are interested, please run your setup.exe with the /E event
logging switch and send the resulting c:\sbevents.txt to our Support at
support [at] lindersoft [dot] com.

Perhaps it can provide more information.

I think the problem is with my machine. But I will do this. The install
works on all other machines.

Problem solved. I had installed something called everything. It seems to
be the problem.

Hi Gary,

Maybe how you have it configured perhaps?

FWIW - I use Everything all the time and never have any problems with it vs
SetupBuilder or any installers...

Hi John

Sorry to wax lyrical like this but I cannot resist....

You cannot go wrong with your choice. This is simply the best install tool
on the planet. Being rather old I have tried the whole lot of them. The
quality of the product and the support is astonishing. Nothing comes close
to SetupBuilder.

Cheers
Andre

A lot depends on which version of Everything you are running. 371 is
the "official" version that you download from www.voidtools.com, but
there is a much later and more up to date version (with a different set
of problems) http://www.voidtools.com/Everything-1.2.1.451a.zip

I use it all the time and it does sometimes get tangled up especially
when there are lots of new files being created. That may be why they
tangle during an install. If you are not running 451, try it.

btw did you know there is a Clarion interface? The author built it for
me a good while back.

Sweet! What kinds of things have you done with it?

I have only used it for my own program. I built a "searcher" program
and have incorporated that interface when looking for folders and
files.

I was hoping for an update to Search Everything, but the author has
been very busy with other things. His "regular" job has nothing to do
with computer.
