View Full Version : Maintenance Plan keys

I generate MP keys using the SB SDK which presents no problems. But recently
I discovered that one of my clients had passed his key to someone else. I
only found out by chance.

So my questions is - is there any way to generate a key that is linked to a
specific client/machine at all, much like an Armadillo Key where the key is
linked to the registered name?

TIA

You can link a maintenance plan key to a serial number. If you do this then
the maintenance key only works in combination with a specific serial number
that is linked to a specific client.

John,

As Fredrich answered you can tie it to a serial but if the user gives
his MP then he can as easily also give his serial and you cannot help
this

What I do is create a special encrypted TPS table from my app formed
from the MP read and registry readings and reading the HD c:\ drive
serial number

We use HKLM and HKCU keys to be sure all is properly synched (from SB
installer and from app)

If any of these do not match then the app refuses to open

The user can give away his MP it will not work for the new "user"

The user can give away his special encrypted TPS and his MP - it will
not work.

The user is allowed to request 3 serials per day after this number is
reached the system again stops working and he needs to email us or to
wait for the next day to try again.

This technique does require to user to request (from internat without
our intervention) a new serial if he changes his HD - no one has
complained till date

We have to think like hackers to try and protect our work <g>
