View Full Version : SetupBuilder: Can I copy an entire directory?

I have hundreds of photos and it is too tedious to copy them one at a time
as I usually do in Setupbuilder
Is there a way to just specify that the entire directory should be copied?

thanks
chris

Hi Chris

Wildcard *.jpg or *.* or whatever, where you would normally specify a
single file.

Yes, absolutely no problem :)

You can use the "Copy File(s)..." script function (e.g. with a wildcard) to
copy files from one location to another or the "Copy Folder Tree..."
function to copy files and/or directory trees to another folder.

Does this help?

Not really what I had in mind, Friederich,
In setting-up my install dvd, I want to include over 1000 jpg files in the
setup
I do not want to add them individually while making the install program

thanks
chris

Chris,

You can use wild-cards either in the Files and Folders visualizer or in the
script, if that's what you're asking.

In the visualizer, right-click in the lower-right box, click Add.
Then you can specify a folder and opt to include all sub-folders (pic).

If you have them all in a certain folder, why wouldn't you select all
and copy into
SB?

AFAIK setupbuilder does not allow Select All

"Select All" is supported (see attached screenshot). But I would suggest to
use the "dynamic file linking" feature.

Aha, okay. You said "copy" so I thought your intention was to "copy"
uncompressed files during the installation process from one folder to
another.

What Jane said. You can use the "dynamic file linking" feature and add
wildcards in the "Files Properties". Multiple include (and exclude)
wildcards are allowed. And you can even recurse subfolders.

Hi Chris,

Neither "C6apps\Landi\towns\lindenwold\ludata" nor
"C6apps\Landi\towns\lindenwold\photos" are valid (source) paths in Windows
;-)

You are missing (at least) a drive letter.

Does this help?

BTW, please note that "Copy File(s)..." and/or "Copy Folder Tree..." copy
existing files and/or directory trees from one local folder to another
folder on the target machine! It does not "include" any file into your
setup.exe.

To compile all your .jpg files into your setup.exe, just use the Install
File(s) dynamic file linking feature (e.g. with a *.jpg wildcard).
