View Full Version : SetupBuilder file inconsistency

Hi Friedrich,

> BTW, the message will not come up if you do a command line compile.

Actually it does show the message when running the command line compiler and
then it crashes SetupBuilder!

It runs the script validator, I clicked the "Yes" button to fix the script
and it showed two errors that it encountered and fixed. Then it asks if SB
should save the script. I clicked Yes and then SetupBuilder promptly
crashes! The crash occurs in SB7.exe (version 7.5.3378.0) at offset
0025bb3d. See attached screenshot.

Hope this helps:)

Hi Arnór,

Sorry, I stand corrected. I thought we had already released the fix :-(
But you are right, the following July fix is not in the latest official
build.

---
FIX : (sync from SB8) [SB#107091] IDE: A command line compile did
not skip the "Script Structure Validation".

This is an issue for me since anyone using BA with SetupBuilder may execute
a build project on a SB project that hasn't been verified and may end up in
a crash. It's fine if the SB project has been verified etc. but the
combination I described seems to result in a crash. I think it will be a
tossup if they blame me or you!<bg>

Arnor - I had this several times. BA never crashed however, it just prompted
me to fix the SB file.

Would it not be easier just to email all BA clients and tell them of this
issue and to manually open all their SB files once only and save and the
problem will then go away?

Just a thought.

SB was the one that crashed. It may have been a one time crash issue, not
seen SB crash very often in the past 10 years<g>

Oh Sorry. Actually I dare not say it but SB tends to crash on me from time
to time. I never really know why.

And yes it does tend to be when using BA.

The stupid thing is that it says "SB has stopped working" and yet it still
compiles the script!

Go figure.

This new "feature" is there for more than two months now and we did not
receive any crash report. So I think it's not a major showstopper <g>.

I was not able to reproduce any crash here with our own command line tools.
It prompts, but it does not crash here.

As a temporary workaround, you can ask your customers to enable the "Skip
'Script Structure Validation'" option in Tools | Options | General. If it
is marked, the 'Script Structure Validation' check is not performed.

The next maintenance release will fix this command line issue.

Here it crashes when it saves the project. The project isn't compiled.

Happens every time here if I execute it from BA, pass compiler vars (2 or 3
usually), click Yes when the message shows up, then click yes to save the
project. At that point SB crashes. Every time. I don't think it's a major
issue either, but it sure is a PITA when it happens.

Unfortunately, I can't reproduce this crash (with the public Build 3378) on
any of our machines nor did we receive a similar report :-(

I would suggest to enable the "Skip 'Script Structure Validation'" option in
Tools | Options | General. This should work-around it.

Sorry for the inconvenience!
