Hi Guys.

One of my users is reporting that when he checks for updates he gets an
error message saying "The web update client could not locate an associated
application to update. Please make sure that this software is installed
properly". This is working fine for all the other users..

What causes this?

Thanks...!

Best Regards,

Gary.

Hi Gary,

I think he "moved" the product to another location. Or "something" removed
the web update registry keys from the Registry.

The detection process is very simple. The wupdate.exe detects where it is
running. This "location" (full path including wupdate.exe) is used to
detect the web update information in the registry (stored in
HKLM\Software\Lindersoft\WebUpdate\AppPaths). A value name in that registry
key is the "location".

For example, if wupdate.exe is located in c:\test, then the value name would
be c:\test\WUPDATE.EXE. This points to the Product GUID (value data). It
checks that Product GUID in HKLM\Software\Lindersoft\WebUpdate\Apps to
retrieve the web update information (host address, port, user name, etc.).

Does this help?

Friedrich

Hi Friedrich.

That makes sense.. I'll chase this up with the client (now that I'm sure I
know what I'm talking about <g>).

Thanks as always for your fantastic support!

Gary.
