View Full Version : Timestamp URL

Hi Friedrich,

In the Codesigning dialog there is a TimeStamp URL suggesting to use
http://timestamp.verisign.com/scripts/timstamp.dll as a possible
source. However when I tried this url can not be found.

The other one, http://timestamp.comodoca.com/authenticode works:)

You may want to check this topic out and update it:)

I meant that this is _in the help_, not on the dialog<g>

Hi Arnór,

This is from the latest Verisign manual:

"http://timestamp.verisign.com/scripts/timstamp.dll is the URL for the
VeriSign timestamping service."

IMO, the SetupBuilder documentation is correct <g>

Friedrich,

I think what Arnór may be referring to what I call time server "burps", for
what ever reason, that address doesn't work momentarily, so you switch to
another known working timestamp address, it works, and as long as one
address consistently works, you use it. I have had that happen to my
installs.

Yes, I agree.

I'll try to add a "combo box" in the Digital Signature section so we can
simply select another server if one is down.

Friedrich,

THANKS, much appreciated!

BTW, We have an American insurance company commercial with a gecko (name of
company is Geico) animated character that tells you how wonderful Geico is
in some very comical lines,

at one point the gecko says, "you want an english muffin? they literally
hand you a toasted english muffin with butter and jam" then says "well,
that's a complete dramatization".

Well, someone suggests something - Friedrich - "I'll add that in the next
build"

I can envision an animated character advertising for Lindersoft someday!

"you want an english muffin? Lindersoft will literally hand you a toasted
english muffin with butter and jam" "well, that's a complete
dramatization". "But you get my point" :-D

Good:) However I get a Page Not Found when I try that. The comodo
server works fine:)

Yes, I think because this is some kind of "web service". But Verisign
time-stamping works fine (see attached screenshot). Just time-stamped a
test installer.

Comodo is smart enough to display a message when a browser connects to the
time-stamping server ;-)

I only tried it in the browser after I'd compiled an install several
times with it and it did not show up in the exe properties. So the
problem was yesterday that this URL did not return whatever it needed
to return into the timestamping mechanism to actually timestamp the
install. I just copied and pasted out of the help and I tripple
checked that it was correct and nothing missing. The comodo service
worked first time. Is it possible for you to show a warning if the
service did not return information to timestamp the install?

Unfortunately, the code-signing tools do not return a specific error code.
So it's not possible to detect a (temporary) time-server problem, sorry :-(

Ah, of course. No problem, just need to check it:)

Do you know what api can be used to bring up the standard signature
window?
