View Full Version : Install doesn't detect C8

Hi Friedrich,

Had an email from a customer saying that my Clarion third party installs
didn't find his C8 install. His Capesoft installs find C8 (I'm pretty sure
Capesoft uses SB). Clarion 8.0 is checked on the "Clarion Environment
Detection Dialog" and C8.0 shows up on my machines here in testing. I don't
do anything to detect or enable/disable version detection, that's all done
by SB builtin stuff.

I'm using the latest SB7 build I think - 7.7.3720.0.

Is there anything I can ask him to test or anything I can do to try to
figure out why this happens on that machine? Any insights or ideas?

Best regards,

I've sent him a dummy install with just the "Detect Clarion versions" dialog
and asked him to let me know what it shows. I'll report when I hear back
from him:)

Best regards,

Hi Arnór,

Perhaps the registry items are not correct and/or he "moved" the Clarion 8
environment into another folder.

Friedrich,

I am the villain in this melodrama.

My Clarion 8 is installed in H:\Clarion8.

The registry entry for "root" is "H:\Clarion8".

Is this not correct?

What do you have in the following registry key?:

SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstal l\{19336650-F595-11DF-72AE-06609D572CD6}\InstallLocation?

Or if you have Clarion 8 PE:

SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstal l\{5C35A2B0-F595-11DF-2EA6-0662547D0BB3}\InstallLocation

Friedrich,

The install referred to is on another computer. I just tried Arnor's
installs on another computer and they work correctly seeing both Clarion
8 and 6.

So, dammit :), as usual, you are correct.

I will have to check the registry key on the other computer later today.

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Hate it when that happens<g>

But: It would be nice to figure out WHY the heck this happens.

Friedrich: I have got reports about similar from one or two other
customers, where things LOOKED right but the Clarion install wasn't detected
for some reason. With C6 this happened several times and it was usually
because of UAC and Win.INI not being updated. But I have also got, like I
said, couple of reports with C7/8 that ain't makin' no sense to poor me;)

Turned out the registry entries did not exist at all on the offending
machine! So something went wrong during the C8 install and the registry
wasn't updated, or something, somehow, removed those entries after the
install.

Or someone copied the C8 install from one machine to another instead
of installing it!<g>

Lee,

I would agree with that except for the fact that the SoftVelocity
Registry information exists on both machines, or is this written after
Clarion 8 is first opened?

I'll test that theory now by deleting the SoftVelocity Clarion 8
Registry key.

Done.

I opened Clarion 8. Then closed it. The Registry key was not written so
I Imported the key to get things back to "normal".

Oh, well, it's working now so onto something more interesting.
