I thought MAP Subscribers were getting Windows 8 available on 20th August or
thereabouts. I have not received notification.

However when I check my downloads I get the attached. Is this the official
working version of Windows 8?

I may have missed the email as Avast has been playing up on my machine but
now fixed which has been putting Spam into my Inbox and cluttering it up so
may have deleted the email by accident.

Thanks

John

I don't think they send out emails when a new product becomes available.
Looks like the following screenshot when you have a MSDN subscription.

The "Windows 8 Professional" is the official build. Don't install the "N"
version because it does not have the Media Player package (for the European
Markets).

Thanks Friedrich. What is confusing is I got to that page and saw they were
all DVD versions. Going in via My Downloads you get a slightly different
page but seems OK.

Thanks

John,

Actually, there are two different download locations in the MAPS plan with
different purposes.

The Product Downloads and Keys section (as displayed in your maps.gif) -
for the OS - Windows 8 (and Windows 7) - these are only upgrade keys - this
section (Product Downloads and Keys) - is more for the business side in
general.

At MSDN - using the filter My Product Keys to display only the downloads
and keys you are entitled to under the: Action Pack Development and Design
- this is Developer side. - Visual Studio 2012...

According to a phone call I had with a Microsoft Rep - you use the MSDN OS
keys - for example for your Virtual Machines - because these keys are full
keys - NOT upgrade keys.

Of course, the Action Pack Solution Provider - get a Technet subscription
(NOT MSDN).

You may have noticed if you have had the Action pack for a couple years,
every year it shrinks a bit more.

As to notice, like Friedrick says - no notice - you just have to check back
when RTM's were finally shipping, or other times during the year, when they
add something new for your subscription.

I kept checking, so I had the MSDN Windows 8 RTM and keys on August 17th,
and quickly built a couple Windows 8 RTM VM's that weekend (and lost a lot
of sleep! :-)

Oh! Thanks David. They do not make it very clear. I have always used the
area (maps.gif) even for new installs.

Thanks

John,

No they do not make it clear. However, at a previous point in time, they
didn't restrict us to upgrade only keys in the Product Downloads and Keys
section.

About the new installs (no previous OS), are you using MSDN keys? If so,
that would make sense - full key so no upgrade problem -

I'm not sure (because I use the MSDN side for OS's), but I would think the
iso's are the same.
