View Full Version : .NET4.x and the GAC issue on XP and 2003 (SB #7.7.3805)

NewsArchive
10-18-2012, 08:59 AM
Problem: the latest SetupBuilder 7.7 Build 3805 breaks the "Add .NET
Assembly into the Global Assembly Cache (GAC)" functionality for .NET 4.x
assemblies on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP.

Cause: We have recompiled the relevant source codes with Visual Studio 2012
(RTM). Applications compiled with VS2012 won't run on WinXP or Server 2003.
Microsoft is inclined to add support to target older platforms with an
update (Q4 2012 or Q1 2013).

If you have to add a .NET4.x assembly into the Global Assembly Cache (GAC)
on Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP, please contact support [at] lindersoft
[dot] com and we'll provide you with a workaround.

Send MS a note:

Well since I can totally run rings around your MSI installers (and still
support them), make me an offer. Hint: I'm easy but I'm NOT cheap!

If they accept, then I want a round trip ticket to the party! <vbg>

I'll never ever go through this (VeriSign/MS) certification nightmare again
<g>. But I'll provide the tools in SetupBuilder 8 so other developers can
do it <g>.

In other words, I won't do this again, but I'll be sure to provide a
path to this nightmare if you choose to experience it. <g>

Merci Fredrich

Much appreciated all the work we did the other day - this should get me
onto having DMC as "cerified for windows 8" ....

I purchased the certificate from symantecs (who bought verisign) and
got my notary to sign the requested paper work proving I am the guy on
the picture of that passport .... uploaded all and am waiting now ....

will let you all know (if easier then 3 years back when I got DMC
certified for Vista

(as w8 is better than Vista it should be better also <bg>)

Russ,

> Wash your mouth out with SOAP! <bg>

NO!

'98me WAS better than Vista & Win7 is much better than '98me AND Win8!

But, since I now have a REAL start button in Win8 if I was forced to
actually use it I could but I'd STILL hate the look and feel. Win8 has
the most drab, lifeless, UI ever. Windows 3.1 looked better!!!!<g>

3.1 looked better as they used 15 more colors per item. Win 8 looks
like some of my old DOS prompts after you loaded the ANSI.SYS driver.

But XP *is* better than 98 anything. Vista is better than XP. Win 7
rulez. Now we are back to construction paper cutouts for a GUI (I guess
its good they are different colors - ish). *sigh*

Russ,

> Vista is better than XP.

Whatever medication you're on either up the dosage or QUIT!<g>

I'd rather impale myself on a pike than use C6.3 in 32-bit Vista,
XP-Pro any and every day before Vista. I'd even go back to W2K instead
of Vista if needed! I HATED VISTA, or have you NOT gotten that yet?<g>

Russ,

> Or 6.3 on anything.

My primary benefactor determines the version and it will, most likely,
remain 6.3 for the foreseeable future. Native 6.3, since it has to
remain usable by all the other developers.

Anyway, I can just about get around in 6.3 with my eyes shut so it's
still, by far - for me anyway, the fastest Clarion platform.
