The following problem:

Customer buy my software 01.01.2012 - the have subscription 6 month -
31.06.2012 your format: 20120631
In the last 12 months, the customer gets online updates.

now we have 10.01.2013 - a new pc have the customer, he install the
first setup from 01.01.2012 !

Now if I understand correctly, he can not install updates because the
maintenance is no longer valid. BUT not! Updates for January to June 2012.
Is that correct?

He can install all versions that you have released during his subscription
period.

For example, if you have released a version on June 30, 2012 (one day BEFORE
his subscription expired) then he can install it. If you have released a
new version on July 01, 2012 (one day AFTER his subscription expired) then
he can NOT install it.

Hope this helps.

He has to download the original install or update image from your web site
and then he can install everything he is entitled to (even in 50 years).
But he can NOT install versions that you have released AFTER his expiration
date.
