This week, I'll demonstrate new features included in SetupBuilder 8.0
Developer Edition.

-- New x64 cross-process communication mechanism

SetupBuilder 8 provides a brand new x64 cross-process communication
mechanism to support enhanced native 64-bit functionality on Windows x64
systems.

SetupBuilder 8 comes with native 64-bit support for "Detect Active
Application..." and "Terminate Active Application..." to handle Win64
applications on x64 systems. This lets you "lift" the detection process to
64-bit so that the installer can communicate with the 64-bit application.

For example, if you would like to check whether an instance of "notepad.exe"
(a 64-bit application) is running on Windows 8 x64. The "Detect Active
Application..." function in all previous SetupBuilder versions correctly
returns "603" (process not currently running) because there is no 32-bit
version of notepad.exe active. In SetupBuilder 8, you can switch into x64
mode and detect (and terminate) an active 64-bit instance of notepad.exe.

See attached screenshots.

Planned additional native 64-bit features for upcoming SB8 releases: ODBC,
ACL, SERVICE.
