View Full Version : SetupBuilder e-learning tutorials will be powered by DemoBuilder!

All,

As you might already know, we are working on e-learning tutorials and
interactive FAQs for our SetupBuilder product line. We tested quite a few
tools for creating software demos (so-called screencasts) on Windows 8.1,
including Adobe Captivate and Camtasia. It needs to be something that is
super-simple to use but provides editing features to produce nice-looking,
lightweight simulations, presentations and tutorials.

We decided to select Demo-Builder 9.1 developed by Tanida, Inc.

http://www.demo-builder.com

Demo-Builder is a powerful, yet simple to use, software tool for creating
professional and fully interactive application demonstrations and
simulations, presentations and tutorials. There are hardly any requirements
that Demo-Builder doesn't meet. Demo-Builder is straightforward, simple,
and efficient to use.

I'll keep you posted on our progress!

Yes, very cool product.

It was planned to use Adobe Captivate 7, but then I came across Demo-Builder
9. The latest Captivate update (more than 2.4GB) had some problems with
capturing IDE screens (on Win8.1). Demo-Builder seems to work perfect for
us.

Looking forward to what you come up with. I use Camtasia to great
effect. I'd like to see how they stack up. But most importantly, I
hope to learn something new, do something better, etc.

Hi Friedrich,

I see you can export to Flash video, but Flash won't run on iPads.
And it would be nice to be able to run your videos also on iPad.

Best regards,
Jeffrey

Choose to build and export your movies as a Flash Movie (SWF), as a
Video(H264,AVI,WMV,MPEG4) file, as a Standalone executable file (EXE),
as a series of Image Files (in all the popular graphics file formats)
or as a Word document(DOC) - Handouts.

I have not tested this feature yet, but as I understand it Demo-Builder 9.1
can generate both HTML5 format (to watch it on an iPod) and Flash format.

Hi,

I just tried all their samples on my iPad, but all videos say that I need
to upgrade my Flash version. So on an iPad it's a bummer. I think it is
important that iPad will be supported.

Best regards
Jeffrey

I actually have that same problem on one of my machines. I have all the
latest stuff from Adobe via Creative Cloud and if I try to watch videos on
Facebook and in several other places (Youtube is ok) it tells me I need to
upgrade the flash player. I don't know why. Started about 2 months ago and
I haven't had time to look into it. At about the same time all my browsers
started behaving the same way: Anything that I print directly to the laser
printer comes out with 100% black images. Print to PDF and it's fine.
Don't know what's buggin' me;)

Best regards,

Are you using any type of javascript blocker, like NoScript. Sometimes
website interpret the lack of Javascript as an inability to handle
flash.

Russ,

Adblock, Cookie Monster, Status-4-Evar to name a few I use.

"Open Bookmarks in New Tab" is another I've gotten VERY used to.

Ok, Friedrich, I'll stop now!<g>

Another item for the education topics: Maintenance plans. When to use
one and how do they work. Is it for the installer or can I use it in my
apps too?

LOL!

Thanks to the discussions in the thread, we found two bugs in the
Demo-Builder product (issues when using iOS). The Tanida guys are working
on a fix. I hope they get it sorted out soon.

I've been using AdBlocker Plus for years, although I heard recently
that they made deals with some advertisers to let stuff through. :(

Agreed. My only complaint is that I can't get it to export its
settings, so that I can import them onto my new machine. Just getting
the settings window to appear takes a minute or two of waiting. If I
hit the Export button, it freezes "forever". (I've waited hours,
without an activity, just in case it was really, really, really
slow...)Mike Hanson
