Clarion 9 Developers Only!

I have uploaded an updated freeware "Clarion 9 Manager" (Build 9.1.10654.1)
to detect the status of your Clarion 9.0 and 9.1 environments.

http://www.lindersoft.com/projects/C9_Manager.exe

How to interpret the reported values?

- Windows System Type

Displays the detected Windows operation system type (x86 or x64). Status is
"OK" if operation system type detection succeeded.

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable

Displays the detected VC++2005 redistributable version. There are still
some Clarion developers who do not accept the offer to install the
"Microsoft Visual C++ 2005" and/or the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008"
redistributables. Even if you already have a VC++2005 and/or VC++2008
component installed, your Clarion 9.x system needs a specific version! The
required VC++2005 libraries are not a core component of the Windows
operating system. Status is "OK" if the required VC++2005 redistributable
is installed.

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable

Displays the detected VC++2008 redistributable version. The required
VC++2008 libraries are not a core component of the Windows operating system.
Status is "OK" if the required VC++2008 redistributable is installed.

- .NET Framework 2.0

Displays the detected .NET Framework 2.0 version. Status is "OK" if the
required .NET Framework is installed.

Note: The .NET Framework 2.0 is not a core component of the Windows 8.1
operating system. The Clarion installer can download and activate it for
you. Do NOT try to use your own .NET Framework 2.0 redistributables!

- Clarion 9.0

Displays the detected Clarion 9 build number. Status is "OK" if the Clarion
9.0 IDE is correctly installed. Status is "OK (UNREGISTERED)" if the
Clarion 9.0 IDE is correctly installed but the serial number has not been
verified yet. Start the IDE and enter your Name/Serial Number and press
"Validate" to register your product.

- Clarion 9.1

Displays the detected Clarion 9.1 build number. Status is "OK" if the
Clarion 9.1 IDE is correctly installed. Status is "OK (UNREGISTERED)" if
the Clarion 9.1 IDE is correctly installed but the serial number has not
been verified yet. Start the IDE and enter your Name/Serial Number and
press "Validate" to register your product.

- NOTES:

1. Clarion 9.0 reports "9.1.10638" and "FAILED!". That means, you have
installed the C9.1.10638 pre-release over your existing C9.0 product. As a
result, you have overwritten the C9.0 (Windows) registration information.

2. Microsoft Visual C++ reports "0" and "FAILED!" but Clarion status is
"OK". You have skipped the VC++ installation step or you have uninstalled
the VC++ package.

Wait until next week and "Clarion 9 Manager" should report the expected
values. But for C9.1 only, because your C9.0 Windows registration is
corrupted now.

I assume that you have installed the C9.1 pre-release over your C9.0. As a
result, Windows "lost" your C9.0 registration. Uninstall for C9.0 will not
work any longer.

BTW, I am sure it display a "9.1.x" value for your Clarion 9.0, correct?
Just for fun, post a screenshot.

BTW, but not really <g>

Look at the attached screenshots. At the moment, you have installed C9.0
and C9.1 (pre-release).

Because the "initial" C9.1 pre-release and the C9.0 environments can't 100%
coexist on the same machine, you have overwritten the C9.0 registration with
your C9.1 install. That's why the "Clarion 9 Manager" reports "FAILED!" for
both now. There is only one uninstall item in your Windows "Uninstall or
change a program" control panel.

But no problem. SoftVelocity will make a new C9.1 install image available
soon. Then you have to uninstall (IMPORTANT) your initial Clarion 9.1
pre-release and SetupBuilder's magic will bring back your C9.0 items ;-)
After that, you can install the new C9.1 and you are back :-)

To sum it up: wait until SV makes a new install image available. Then
uninstall the initial C9.1 pre-release, install the new C9.1 and you are
back. "Clarion 9 Manager" will report "OK" for both C9.0 and C9.1 next week
:-)

"Install over" in this case means that C9.0 and the initial C9.1 pre-release
can't 100% coexist on the same machine. The next C9.1 will fix this!

So even if you installed into another folder (e.g. the default
"C:\Clarion9.1", from the technical point-of-view you installed C9.1 over
9.0.

So just wait a few more days and when the new C9.1 install image becomes
available, UNINSTALL the initial Clarion 9.1 first (this will bring back
your Clarion 9.0 reg-information) and AFTER that install the new Clarion 9.1
;-)

Yes it does display a 9.1 for c9 (as reported)

This means :
I uninstall then reinstall 9.1 to level things for c9.1
but what about my c9 - how to "get it back" in working order ?
re install c9 over existing ?

The uninstall process for the 'initial' C9.1 will restore your C9.0
reg-information (no need to reinstall C9.0). It will restore your "Clarion
9.0" entry in the "Uninstall or change a program" control panel and C9.0
detection capability for 3rd-party templates will be back. After that you
can install the new C9.1.

Thank you Friedrich!

I am sure that developers who test installs with this will have *many*
less problems than those who don't.
This definitely should be in the original Softvelocity Installs.
