NewsArchive

The latest avast! virus/spyware definition update (March 01, 2014)
introduced a new nice false-positive bug.

We have contacted avast! Now let's see how long it takes to fix the
problem.

We can't compile a single project now because avast! blocks it low-level.

Wow, avast! really introduced a serious bug here... Very VERY bad job,
avast!

Hahahaha. Too funny (no, NOT REALLY). Even "Add the file to the scan
exclusion list" does not work because they are blocking our compiler.

In other words, we can't compile a SINGLE project with our own product now
because avast! has control over our system. No exclusion allowed. So what
can we do to "fix" their bug? Hmmmm, let's see... uninstall AVAST! ????

behavior and to use another AV

I really hope they will fix it this weekend (or even better TODAY). This
false-positive bug is a candidate for a support nightmare for us. My #1
problem is that more and more support requests from all over the world are
coming in.

At the moment, my only recommendation is to avoid avast!

avast! Users,

Please update to the latest avast! virus definition file and let me know if
you still see a false-positive error when you do a project compile.

Thanks,
Friedrich

Can't even turn it off for 10 minutes? ESET has that feature.

Yes, good point. It has a "Disable for 10 minutes" and "Disable for 1 hour"
feature (I have never used it). My avast! received a definition file update
and the false-positive is gone. The problem is, two minutes AFTER the
definition update, an avast! support engineer asked for more information.
So the one million dollar question is, who fixed the false-positive bug or
is it still there (some kind of heuristic bug)!?

Good question. Unless you found *the* person that has the authority and
know-how to fix. :-)

Still not fixed and no further reply from avast! Ouch! Support requests
are still coming in.

I don't get that false-positive bug on my Dell (VM) development machine now,
but the very same VM (backup from Friday, then virus definition updated to
today's state) running on my Macbook Pro Retina still blocks SetupBuilder.
So it's definitely not fixed yet :-(

This is killing me.

Sorry to hear that my friend.

You know what I think about the intelligence level at Avast after the false
positives and junk science from them that we went through with our
downloads<g>.

<g>. Still no reply, but new definition file arrived and now it works on
all machines. Question: fixed or just luck? :-)

LOL - I'd be afraid to say.

We've been down that road before<g>.

Hi

We also have very bad experience with Avast, eating up our DLL files,
resulting in a lot of support calls! And when you mail them about this, no
response! So just hoping they fix it in their next definitions. Very, very
bad: Avast just sucks!! Too many issues in the past and now again!

Best regards
Jeffrey

That could well be.

They say Faith is blind ... and these idiots at Avast could not find a
virus if someone tattooed the code for it on their eyelids!

ROFL!

Maybe they should tattoo elsewhere <vbg>

Seriously, I am reading this with a great deal of interest as I never know
what AV stuff to take seriously. In my experience they all seems to be
poking in the dark and their versions vacillate between good and bad. It is
like shooting farts in the dark. Put it this way - we have heard good and
bad things about every AV offering out there. It is a circus. Pick your
poison.

The avast! false-positive bug seems to be "fixed", but absolutely no
confirmation message from avast! No feedback, no nothing. Thank you avast!,
very good job....NOT.
