View Full Version : Validity Check failing on downloads

This is starting to be a problem. I turn on the validity checking for
our installation of real programs and demo's. Many many people these
days are getting an error with the validity check after downloading. I
was assuming it was their connection and something went wrong during the
download. I called Godaddy and they accept no responsibility.

One of our program demo's has been out there for quite a while, and it
is just now happening.

So, do I turn off the validity checking? I thought this was a good
safety feature. I sure don't want a virus invading the software.

Any advise would help. Trying to figure out where the problem is.

Thanks,

If the validity check fails, that's all the more reason you need it.

You do NOT want to have your customers get part way through an installation
and have the installation be corrupt.

Presumably, you're also code-signing your installer and the "valid
publisher" message doesn't appear when the download isn't correct. But
people will often ignore that.

Maybe switch web hosts...

In addition to what Jane said, one way to test is to download it
yourself. Does the validation error trigger? If in doubt, does no harm
to upload a fresh install. But I would never turn off that validation
check.

Maybe Friedrich could answer why its even an option! :-)

Ok, those were the answers I was expecting. We've checked it ourselves
with no issues... figure it's the hosting.. or the client has a bad
connection. But too many now that can't download.

Know any good ftp hosts? I sure don't want to transfer my entire site.

Thanks,
Ray

I use GoDaddy's ftp facilities for my site. That is what SB uses to
send it up. To download, I give client's the direct link or a drop box
link, depending on their security (some won't allow web updates!)

I recall one validation failure and re-downloading handled it.
