View Full Version : Anti-virus vendors - what a waste of MY resources... PART II

All,

Did I already mention that anti-virus vendors are "The Dark Side" ???!!!

It all started again with Kaspersky. They introduced a new issue and as a
result, their software detected some SetupBuilder generated applications as
"Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Injector.llpg". Kaspersky confirmed that it was a
"false-positive" (a synonym for 'bug', 'defect', 'misfeature' or 'potential
source of difficulties which you should be aware of') in their system but
told our customers "to fix this - change installer." Yes, you read it
right -- change the installer system to work around THEIR bug(s). This is
Spongebob logic at its best.

Okay, the surprising news is, Kaspersky Labs fixed it in their latest
definition update. They are always busy fixing their own problems.

Then there is another type of protection vendors. I call them the 'Copy And
Pasters'. They take someone else's garbage and put it into their own virus
definitions. Of course, like in the rush of lemmings "Panda Security"
jumped on the train. Why are they still in business after killing so many
machines? "Don't reboot or you will be bricked!"

And then there is "Symantect" and "Jiangmin". A class of their own, paid
troublemakers.

Don't let "The Dark Side" win. Please report all detected "false-positives"
to the protection software vendor as an error! Here is an interesting "How
to Report Malware or False Positives to Multiple Antivirus Vendors" link:

Thank you for being part of the SetupBuilder family!

Friedrich

Here is another example of very serious virus and malware "protection" <g>

See the attached screenshots. This is the web update install image for the
latest SetupBuilder Developer and Professional Edition. It is nearly
(99.99%) the same file generated from the same project, code-signed with the
same certificate. About 98% of our customers are using Developer Edition
and only 2% are on Professional Edition. But Symantec gives a reputation
warning for the high-end Developer Edition <g>.
