Hello everyone,
I've been using setupbuilder to deploy our software to customers for some time now, but never ventured to the webupdate feature.

I believe I have everything right, but not sure whats going on here.

Setupbuilder 8.5 Developer version

I've created my installer as usual, set the webupdate feature.

Then created the webupdate installer for the project.

Everything seems to work fine. I can run the wupdate.exe program after I run my initial installer. And it sees that there is a newer version on the server and proceeds to download my webupdate.exe file.

The problem is that once the installer is downloaded it does nothing. I can run it and nothing happens, I can see it briefly come up in the task manager and then go away, so obviously theres an error somewhere. But how can I find out where the problem is?

Thanks!

Hello,

I would suggest to check the following link:

This should help.

If the installer "does nothing" then you have some problems with your update strategy. Do you detect the (correct) Product GUID and installation folder, do you replace older files, etc.?

I thought so as well. But I create that installer just as I do the original, and it works fine. Our software is simple, I basically stop web services, move old files and replace with new ones, run a SQL script, and restart the web services.

Its as if its not starting the web installer and downloading all the file pieces from the server, but I believe its setup correctly as it grabs the initial web installer after running the wupdate.exe.

GUID and everything seems to be detected properly as the wupdate detects there is a new version available for download.

Anyone familiar with this and willing to help? I'd compensate for your time.

Thanks!
