Today is October 21, 2015. Happy Back to the Future Day everyone. The
future is now the past! I'm off to Cafe 80's on my hover board for a
refreshing Pepsi Perfect. Caution: Keep hover board away from water...

Yes, it's October 2015 and there are still a lot of Windows XP
Professional-based automated teller machines a.k.a. ATMs, automated banking
machine (ABM), cash machine, cashpoint, cashline or "hole in the wall" out
there. Did you know that quite a few customers from the banking sector are
using our SetupBuilder Developer Edition to power their ATMs (including
updates)? Yesterday, we were asked how long we plan to support Windows XP
in SetupBuilder -- they need guaranteed support until December 2016 and for
Windows 7 until 2020! Of course, SetupBuilder will continue to support XP
and Windows 7.

Next time you use an ATM, just remember that it might be a "SetupBuilder
Inside" machine.

So what percentage of a penny do you get siphoned off into your account for
every transaction<g>?

Hi Friedrich,

> Yes, it's October 2015 and there are still a lot of Windows XP

I remember just before we moved up here in 2008 I was at an HEB store in
San Antonio. HEB is the largest grocery chain in Texas - or was back
then. Their system went down and for a while you could see with Windows
98 logo displayed on every register<g> I don't know what the local
Walmart is running on their self checkouts, but it's something VERY SLOW<g>

Best regards,

It's not that long ago (2009) I was working with big laser printers from
Oce. Half a dozen bins, many many hundreds of pages a minute. Blah blah.

Behind a small door, closely guarded by the operators who were trying to
make a living, was a little console they rarely used. If they let you
watch after a reset, there was a brief Windows 95 logo (hmmm, it *might*
have been 98, memory fails).

But no real problem with that? I also remember ink-jetting machines that
had some strange "embedded windows" version of XP.

If you've got old but proven hardware running an old O/S it's
understandable that you won't be losing sleep?
