View Full Version : Can't register Clarion templates

NewsArchive

I'm having trouble registering Clarion templates, the SB example and third
party templates I install do not register the templates.

In my own SB project I have ...

"Register as Clarion Template..." ticked on the .tpl file
"Enable Clarion Support" ticked in the Options
"Register all pending Clarion Templates" in the .sbp file

...but the .tpl isn't registered.

Have I forgotten something?

I noticed that %_SB_RETURNEX% seems to be returning 0, in the Accessory
Deployment Example, even though Clarion is registered. Could that be the reason
why?

TIA

Liam

IMO, you have a "damaged" Clarion environment. Happens if 1.) you do not
install Clarion but "copy and paste" it (to another location) or 2.) a
registry clean program damaged your registry.

You can test it with this tool (see attached screenshot):

And here are some interesting information for Clarion 10 developers:

Thanks Friedrich,

Running that utility, everything is OK, except it says "Not Registered", but it
definitely is.

I'm using the "/configdir" switch, if that makes a difference?

There are no other symptoms, or problems with my install, so far as I can tell.

I do use CCleaner, and am also running Norton Internet Security (Which can be a pain!)

Should I re-run the installation again? It's no big deal that the templates
don't register.

Hi Liam,

Yes it does.

If your using the /ConfigDir switch then the 3rd party installer has to be
written to use it as well. Otherwise the installer does not know where the
Clarion config files are and the command line utility that registers the
templates will fail.

All our that were released after the June 2015 update fully support the
/ConfigDir option (both with the default value and with a developer
specified value) and WILL register templates correctly.

However I don't believe that all template producers have support for it.

Your best bet is to check with your vendor.

Thanks Charles, but ProPath is one of my templates that didn't get registered
during the install.

See my reply below, it seems that for registration to work it is necessary to
install Clarion and register it without using /configdir in the shortcut, and
then use /configdir after that.

Do you have the June 2015 installer that has these screens (attached)?

If not, then you do not have our most recent installer and it does not
support /ConfigDir.

I can't recall for sure on that detail (as it has been months since we did
our testing), but I seem to remember that you have to run Clarion 10 after
installing it (before you start installing the 3rd party templates) for it
to work right.

Thanks Friedrich,

1. I added that .sbi to the project and I then received a message that the
templates were registering - Progress!

But no templates registered.

2. I re-installed Clarion, and changed the shortcut to /configdir

Template registration screen during install, but I also got an error message
that the Clarion 10 registration details were invalid?

No templates registered.

3. Removed /configdir from Clarion shortcut, prompted for registration details,
entered them.

Success! Install program now registered my templates.

So it seems for this to work, Clarion MUST be registered without using /configdir.

Hi Friedrich/Charles,

> 100% what Charles said.

I'm glad you guys reminded me! I thought I had this in my installers,
but I don't:( Build Automator handled /configdir, and apparently I
figured that was enough<bg>

Will add this to my next build cycle:)

Best regards,
