Hello all & Friedrich,

Enjoyable week-end in family I hope ?

I spent my saturday realising Microsoft had become grown ups and had this
time made a real "hit" of their windows 2008 ent server edition - latest
official release (not the RC1) - today is the official release but had a
copy from MSDN last week already.

For my testing purposes and certification I had to have a real install and
not a Vmware one so....I resized partitions and after downloading the sata
controler driver to be sure the partitions would be seen I started the
adventure (waiting for all kind of catastrophes like when XP-Vista-2k3 were
first installed)
I did not even know if I could do a dual boot between my 2k3 and this new
2k8

Insert DVD and boot starts loads files select install sees no partitions
click install driver insert diskette finds the driver sees the partitions
loads windows :)
1st good point
Now to my super duper machine - dual opteron socket F supermicro motherboard
with 16 Gb ram sound onboard ethernet onboard ati FireGl7350 video card etc
.....
I had looked of course - by habit to download the full supermicro package of
drivers but found none for Vista nor for 2k8 so started having doubts on
acheiving my install

I start 2k8 and :
Network is found and is working out of the box
Sound is found and working out of the box
All other "special" chipsets are found and working out of the box
ALL works first time :)

I ask for more driver downloads and land on ati site take the latest driver
pack and install it and after a reboot ALL is perfect for video also :)

I do a couple of settings to have themes and Vista looks - to boot
automatically without entering pwd and to exit without explaining why I do
so each time plus removing all arrows under the icons and reboot
I also change network name to join my lan.....

ALL IS PERFECT !

In an hours time I have a new OS fully installed having recognised all
drivers etc .... PERFECTION

Of course all applications do not install but that is "normal" in a way

I reboot in my 2k3 do an image with acronis TrueImage (does not install
under 2k8) and have a safe clean image

I reboot in 2k8 and start the certification program for DMC and within 45
minutes all IS PASSED in green and no more red FAILED : I have succeeded in
getting my app through - imagine the joy and pride in a way....for a small
individual dev....

First I want to thank you personaly again and again for SB and your work
without which all this could never have hapenned (version ressourcing all
dll's in a day's time after we found this out last we etc .... plus our
audi-merc "deal" .....<BG>.... and your emails yesterday morning to show how
to use SB for versioning on "my machine"....)

MERCI FRIEDRICH

Tips to others wanting to do the same thing :
use a VmWare virtual machine to do all your tests as otherwise dual booting
is a loss of time till you reach passing all your apps tests - then only do
a real life test

You can install this OS blindly as if it passed here on such a "special"
machine I am convinced it will be fine on all others....

I feel this time Microsoft have really offered us an out of the box
EXCELLENT OS .....

Merci - Thank you
