View Full Version : SetupBuilder 5.0 Final Release

Hello All,

We have finally released SetupBuilder 5.0 after 1,244 days of hard work.

In any engineering project, be it a Boeing 747 or a software product, there
comes a point where it becomes worthwhile to take a step back, look at what
works, what doesn't work, dispense with the baggage, and come up with a
ground-up new design.

We invested tens of thousands of development hours, launched the largest
beta test program in Lindersoft's history, and maintained regular contact
with our customers so that they could keep us focused and on track.

We released 40 beta builds to more than 2,000 beta testers around the world,
waded through mountains of wish-list feedback, and chatted with numerous
users (both current and potential).

The result is the most customer-driven SetupBuilder 5 version ever, a
feature-rich release that solves real problems for real software developers
building real state-of-the-art installation applications.

SetupBuilder 5 is a powerful and easy to use Installation Authoring and
Configuration Management environment for developers and organizations
deploying applications to the Microsoft Windows Platform, including Windows
Vista. SetupBuilder 5 has been designed from the ground up to deliver a
perfect fusion of installation authoring, web deployment, configuration
management, and scripting technologies.

And a big congratulations and thank you from me too, especially for the
attention you have paid to everybody who put ideas forward and reported
bugs. You've always been very quick to respond to my queries all the way
through beta testing. SB5 is an excellent product and a massive leap ahead
from SB4. I hope it makes you plenty of money!

Yep, _lots_ of money. Enough to buy SV, then we would get all the development, communication and
responsiveness we all want! <g>

Friedrich,

Installed, and recompiled two existing projects.

And - be still my heart!! - documentation!! ;)
(About which a minor question - the installation package installs a 2 page
'dummy' PDF document. Did you do that just so the IDE 'Reference Manual'
menu item would have something to point at? I replaced it with the 16 MB
PDF from your website.)

Congratulations on a magnificent achievement!

Jane

Congratulations Friedrich.
Does the developer version provide any type support for requiring the
user to enter an installation key I provide? Thanks.

Now that I've looked at the docs, I can answer my own question - yes

Hi, Friedrich.
I'm Using SetupBuilder 5 for my internal clients as well for my 3rd party
products since several months now (at least 4). The leap from version 4 is
huge, but your support and attention to your customers are so dedicated
that I completly forgot that I was using a beta program.
I wish some "Gold" software were as good as your "beta" is.

Yes, this is correct. I forgot to document this <g>.

The SB5 installation includes the full Online Help and a "dummy" PDF file
(provides a link to the full PDF manual on our web site). The full PDF
manual is about 16 MB in size and will be updated on a regular basis. To
always have the latest up-to-date PDF manual available, download the PDF
file from our web site and replace the dummy file.

Thanks again,
Friedrich
