View Full Version : SetupBuilder 5 - setting an install password

I dunno but I find the SetupBuilder help rather cryptic.

I need to add a password to the "package". \
Not unusual, right?

The GUI allows me to password the project, which I certainly don't want. Who
does, unless they are in a multi-user environment.

So I tried the help, which tells me how I can reword the GUI using the
variables, but nowhere do I see how to set the password in the first place?
Has no-one else come across this yet?

Sim,
I do not know if Friedrich monitors this group very often so I will give
you a short answer. For a more complete response you should post this in
softvelocity.clarion.addons.setupbuilder.

Under Dialogs you can add a password dialog box, you might put it in the
Loop Wizard before the Welcome. A password can be set under the Advanced
tab. That should get you started...

Sim,

What Michael said.

Hmm, the online help is "cryptic"?

Program Reference -> Dialogs -> Password Dialog -> See Advanced tab.

What would you suggest to improve the online help?

Regards,

"point. click. ship" - that's SetupBuilder 5

Well let's put it this way.
I want to distribute my app. I have already created a tried and tested SB5
setup, but now I want to distribute "out in the open", so that without a
password, the CD is useless. I thought of zipping the installer with a
WinZip password. WinZip has a password entry in the GUI, that works, but it
is not really the professional way to go.

I would rather the installer had the password instead. So I open the SB5
project and check the help index for where to type the password and I am
faced with having to design the GUI? Why? The one that's in the help looks
fine, all I want to do is type in the password. How does one insert the
Password GUI into the sequence? Even WITH the instructions I am stuck. :-(

Sim,

1. Start SetupBuilder 5
2. Open your script (.sb5)
3. Dialogs View
4. Select "Welcome" item (see screenshot you posted)
5. Right-click (mouse) and select Add...
6. Select "Password" dialog type
7. Select "Advanced" Tab
8. "Protect Install With Password" field: enter your password

Does this help?

Cough, cough, splutter, gasp!

Yes, I see it was there all the time!
I had no idea of this functionality.
Yes indeed! That cerainly DOES help. :-)

Where are these procedural steps in the help?

Sim,

1. Open online help
2. Program Reference
3. Dialogs -> see "Password Dialog"

For example: - "Auto-verify Serial Number"
[in] If this checkbox is marked, the installer will auto verify
the password against the Protect Install with Password.

And there are tons of demo scripts. For example, "Dialog Demo 2.sb5"
demonstrates how to use passwords without the "Auto-verify" feature.

Thanks Friedrich.

Actually my problem was with your step 5 in your earlier response.
I had no idea that was there.

Hi Sim,

You can use right-click (mouse button) or the Add button at the bottom ;-)
