View Full Version : Uninstall and Vista virtual folder

Hi All,

When I uninstall my program (using Setup Builder) under Vista it leave a
copy of the tps data in the virtual folder. This causes the old data to be
read when I reinstall a clean program. How does Setup Builder handle this
so that an uninstall removes the data from the virtual folder

Thanks
Frank Krause

Did your program create the TPS file after you installed? If so, the
installer wouldn't have any idea there would be a file out there...

Hi Ben,

The files in the virtual folder included files which were from the install
as well as ones that were created.

Thanks
Frank

Frank,

Please post the entry you have for that file in your uninstall .log (or post
the .log) and tell us which file is left in which location.

It turned out that all installed files went into the following virtual
folder:

<%User%>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\

This happens if a *legacy* installation (not Vista-aware) is used to install
under Windows Vista or Server 2008. Because such a legacy installation does
not know anything at all about Vista/2008, virtualization kicks in and
redirects all files to the virtual folder.

If the uninstaller is running elevated, it does not have access to the
virtual folder (only legacy applications have) and so nothing can be
uninstalled.

BTW, beginning with SetupBuilder Version 6, all installation applications
are Vista-aware.
