View Full Version : Reminder [05/2008]: Check your Code-Signing Certificate Expiry Date!

Is your code-signing certificate due to expire? I would strongly suggest to
check this! It is important you renew your certificate before the expiry
date. Once the certificate expired, you are unable to code-sign your
applications!

To avoid having to resign software every time your certificate expires, use
the timestamping service. When you sign code, a hash of your code will be
sent to Certification authority to be timestamped. This means that you will
not need to worry about resigning code when your Digital ID expires.
Microsoft Authenticode allows you to timestamp your signed code so that
signatures will not expire when your certificate does.

And if your Verisign or Thawte certificate is due to expire soon, Lindersoft
customers can switch to a 3-Year Comodo certificate for just $200 instead of
$500. Do the math: a Verisign Code Signing Digital ID costs $1,295 for 3
years. A Thawte Code Signing Digital ID costs $549 for 2 years.

AND THAT's a Blue Light Savings of:

Verisign Savings! - $1,095!

Thawte - $648!

(for those who aren't familiar with Blue Light savings - it was a Kmart
(former US Retailer) ad special - strobing, flashing blue light was set up
in one area of the store - announcement made over the Tannoy
(public-address system) for a particular sale!)

Kmart is still around but is now owned/operated by Sears and is making a
comeback of sorts. I still shop there for a lot of blue collar clothing and
"household goods" type of merchandise. <g>

thanks for the update - I thought Sears had rebranded the store to
something of their own choosing - one of our local Kmarts has a great big
Sears logo on the front of the store - probably missed the smaller Kmart
logo...

How to check for Comodo expire date?
I have - As very many I believe- bought it though Lindersoft.
If you could have a system to remind, that would be a very nice touch.

Use one of your code-signed programs (installer .exe or .msi , application
..exe, .dll, etc.). To check the validity of your certificate:

1. Right-click the executable
2. Select Properties
3. Select the Digital Signatures tab
4. Select the signature and press Details
5. Press View Certificates and you see the validity
