View Full Version : My install now locksup

Hi Fredrich,
I have been using Setupbulder for some time without any problems with all of
my programs. Today I changed one of my applications.

Opened Setupbuilder, was notified of a new version so I updated.

I compiled my setup after changing the verison number in 2 places.

I uploaded to my test directory.

After downloading to my Vista Home test machine I ran my installation:

It hangs up on Registering modules: 3OF9.TTF

I downloaded to three other XP machines and had the same problem. I even
selected Run in the SetupBuilder IDE and had the same problem. No error
message, it just locks up. Task Manager says program not responding.

I have tried two older install files for the same program and they lockup
too. So I have no idea what the problem might be.

Attached is a zip of the project file.

I am wrong, the installation will eventually complete. At least it did on
the Vista and my production machine. But it took a very, very long time.
The other two machines may or may not complete.

I would love to know if there is anything I can do to get the install to
complete as fast as in the past.

The other two remained not responding for some time. One completed after an
abnormally long time.

The other never completed.

Hi Bob,

I have attached a 3of9.ttf installation demo. This works fine here on XP
SP2, XP SP3, Vista (32- and 64-bit) and 2008.

If the font is in-use, the installer asks for a reboot.

Does this demo project also locks up on your machine(s)?

BTW, I am running Build 2245.

I have also tested the 3of9.ttf installation demo on Vista SP1 now (all
patches applied). It installed (and uninstalled) without any problem. If
the font is "in-use", the installer asks for a reboot.

Friedrich,
My machines still seem to lockup. My production machine eventually
completed your test 15 minutes after starting. The others hang out and may
or may not eventually complete. I can't image many customers waiting around
for it to complete.

When I remove the option to Register as True Type the installation completes
quickly. Of course the font can't be used by the program, if it saves it.
Vista will not save it at all.

If I have the file checked for date and time and it exists there isn't a
problem, only if it does not exist and must be registered.

Product: Developer Edition - Installation Authoring and Configuration
Management System
Version: 6.7.2219
Web Update 6.8.2245 (6/7/2008)

When I check for a more recent update it says I have the most recent.

Other installation programs for other titles with no files that need to be
registered run fine.

I am disturbed that you do not have the problem when all of my four
computers do. This is run from a download or a CD.

I pray this helps,

Bob Langer

Bob,

There seems to be a problem with your version. You have 6.7 installed, not
6.8.

It should be:

Product: Developer Edition - Installation Authoring and Configuration
Management System
Version: 6.8.2245
Web Update 6.8.2245 (6/7/2008)

I would suggest to run the full install image in "Update mode" (see attached
screenshot).

Does this help?

By the way, I checked this with a large customer and they had about 9,000
downloads for their setup.exe compiled with SB Build 2245. They install and
register 4 font files and there was not a single problem (they support XP up
to 2008).

I have tested this on 12 machines here in our office now and no problem at
all. Tested on 3 x XP SP2, 1 x XP SP3, 3 x Vista Ultimate 32-bit, 2 x Vista
Ultimate 64-bit, 2 x Vista SP1 Ultimate 32-bit, 1 x Windows Server 2008.

Attached is my 3of9Test binary. It registers the font in the blink of an
eye here on our machines.

I downloaded and installed the Licensed Developer Edition and processed the
upgrade as you suggested.

Everything worked fine. I must have gotten out of sync somehow with just
parts of two or more versions. That is all I can think of that could have
caused the problem.

Thanks for your help, it was great as usual.

One other quick question. Is there a way to test for screen resolution? If
800X600 recommend a higher setting?

I would like to test in my app but can not figure it how to do it in
Clarion.

Again, thanks.

I think there must be another cause for your "update" problem. It's even
possible to web update from 6.0 Gold (Build 1718) to the latest 6.8 (Build
2245) in "one go".

The following is strange:

> Product: Developer Edition - Installation Authoring and Configuration
> Management System
> Version: 6.7.2219
> Web Update 6.8.2245 (6/7/2008)

"Web Update" says 6.8.2245 and the IDE is still 6.7.2219. From the
technical point of view, this is not possible. Perhaps there was still some
old data in your ISPs cache.

You are very welcome!

Yes, no problem. You have several options:

1. Requirements Visualizer -> Hardware Checking -> Screen Resolution

-or-

2. Script Editor -> Get System Information (Screen Resolution)

Does this help?
