View Full Version : Firewall always causes me to update twice

Whenever there is a new version available, "Check for updates" starts
running and then the firewall blocks the update.
I press "Allow" on the firewall (which can take 10-20 seconds to register).

But at this point, the only option is to press OK on web update, which
doesn't try again. And then I must re-run the "check for updates" which
downloads the web update, which runs, and which NOW works because of the
new firewall exception.

It would be nice if there was an option to "Retry".

Alan,

JAT ...

Any decent firewall has a list of applications that are allowed to access
the Internet without asking every time (unless the exe doing the access
changes). I don't know what your using, but try exploring the firewall app
and looking for a place to add wupdate.exe to the list.

The particular firewall our company uses (McAfee Total Protection for
Small Businesses) doesn't have this option. I have looked!!!!

That's unfortunate Alan.

I have used F-Secure for several years now and that is one of the nice
features about it.

I started to use F-Secure quite some time ago upon Charles' recommendation,
and highly recommend it now myself, but keep in mind, in case, you're
considering Vista 64 bit - it officially only supports -

Windows Vista (32-bit editions)
Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Professional
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Windows 2000 (Workstation only)

Product Description - F-Secure Internet Security 2008, MFG - F-Secure
